As it was said earlier in this thread, the recent DC Universe animated Wonder Woman was very watchable AND faithful to the source material.

This reminds me of the I-Ching period where the writers threw away the core premise of WW to cash in on Donna Riggs' popularity in The Avengers.

There's no confidence to make a real WW or real superhero series. Somebody in development must have seen this:

Hell no. I mean, hell yes, but Greg Rucka's run was even more definitive than George Perez. He made her the warrior she always should have been.

Agreed, but if we are talking about the tv series then Gail Simone is the best option. She's the only person who has found the voice of both wonder woman as hero and wonder woman as a woman, she would just be fantastic for a regular series.

They need to let Amanda Conner work on Wonder Woman. I think she'd do a thousand times better than what JMS has done recently.

I see what you mean.

Whenever I think of Wonder Woman on screen now, I imagine 300/Gladiator/Spartacus level violence, and it's because of what Greg Rucka did with her. Obviously, they couldn't do that on tv, which begs the question of why they're copping out with this Ally McBeal crap in the first place.

Alright so which graphic novel do I need to pickup to see this sort of epicness depicted in Wonder Woman?

Wonder Woman 195-226 are anthologized in these books.

Down to Earth
Bitter Rivals
Eyes of the Gorgon
Land of the Dead
Mission's End

There's also a graphic novel called The Hiketeia which he wrote just before that run. None of it is as bloody as those movies, but it wouldn't be hard to get them up there.

Because it's NBC. They moved Leno to prime time because it would be cheaper than producing 5 hours of prime time each week. It blew up in their face, but it shows you the mentality.

It sounds like they wants a Wonder Woman series where she has low budget fights against street hoodlums and then sips lattes while talking about shoes.

Instead of a great sweeping orchestra you'll hear Katy Perry. Instead of an Invisible plane she'll drive a Smart car.

No, I mean why did DC give her to these bastards to ruin, instead of making a movie that did her justice.

Do they really think that giving her the pop/network treatment will breathe any kind of life back into the brand? Dumb.

All great stuff but The Hiketeia is one of my all time favorite WW stories, not graphically violent but well written. Great stuff.

But yeah just pick up the fight between Superman and WW when she has to "take care" of Max Lord, that's the ____ right there......

GREAT fight. Awesome resolution with her taking out Max Lord.

But the aftermath was really a letdown. The world is shocked that WW killed Superman's puppet-master. Even Batman, who got his ass handed to him, resents what WW did. That stuff was a contrived lead-in to Infinite Crisis. :slap

Amazons Attack, on the other hand, was full of win.

Agreed, the aftermath sucked but I know why they did it (the Trinity cannot murder) but it would have been nice if secretly they understood what she did but oh well.

Amazons Attack was a little spotty but as far as just a series of ass whooping it's pretty fun.

Also loved Darwin Cooke's version of WW in DC:New Frontiers. "There's the door, spaceman!" And she's taller than Supes!

In fact, Cooke's version of the entire JLA is the best IMHO.

The animated version was nice, but the GN version is my all time favorite DC story.

Love New Fontier, it is easily one of the best reads. The way Cooke mixed real history with DC history is so good. I got the Absolute Edition of that one because I love it so much.

I was really disappointed with the animated movie, animation itself looked great but so much had to be omitted due to time constraints that you really don't get the epicness of the original story. If anyone in this thread has not read New Frontiers then do yourself a favor and get the two trades, you will not be dissapointed.
