Yes, but you know that's not what's being referred to here ;)

Granted, but I honestly think a sculpted separate neck is superior than one sculpted to the figure for the articulation alone. These are "action figures" after all. If articulation is a bother, they've already announced the PF.

I agree, there are a lot of cases where the articulation is nice to have. I'm not after it on every character, but there are some, mainly the older guys or aliens, where a clean flow from head into the neck can enhance the overall look. Palpatine doesn't look bad, but I think he'd look even more like he came right out of the movie with a sculpted neck. Look at what Trev did with his Guinness portrait and those tendons or whatever running from his chin down into his neck, he really put a lot into defining the subtle features and those things can make a big difference to the overall appearance with some characters. Grand Moff Tarkin's another one where continuing the head right into the neck without a break would probably make for a better portrait than cutting it off at the jawline. Characters like Lando, it doesn't make that big of a deal, it still looks like Billy Dee with the jointed neck.

I think there's a balance to be had of how much head/neck articulation is suited for a character and what's the better overall aesthetic. It's how Hot Toys works, their body designs for each figure revolves around a balance of the best aesthetic for the character and articulation.

I think it's right at home here on the Emperor. Being able to bend his neck forward while craning his head up will give him that perfect crone effect under the hood. Without it, you'd have to make him stare down at the shelf to pull it off.

They could have sculpted the head to be tilted for the same effect, HT's Jokers were sculpted in the neck in a way to give him a slouching look, and I think the same posture would work fine for him sitting on the throne. I don't think articulate necks are necessary on figures unless they're more action oriented characters, otherwise, you can probably sculpt the neck in a way that perfect suits the iconic look of the character and it looks nicer.

uh....:monkey1 That completely limits posing options though. No lightning unless you wanna have him hunched over vs. prostrated and glaring down like in the actual movie.

While Trev would do a nice job, no doubt, I really think Andy did a great job with it and the paint on the production piece hurts it more than anything.

I think Andy's sculpt is excellent, but I'm sure there will be CW Obi Wan. Just hopefully AFTER TPM Obi Wan.

:lecture:lecture:lecture I'll never get all the hate on that figure.

The paint, I can agree with, the beard is thick, and after CW Obi, I'm spoiled as to how good beard paint can look, and of course the eyes and eyebrows could be handles a bit better, but the raw sculpt looked great, and the rest of the figure came out very nice.

Agreed! And not this one...

That's because he actually wore a hairpiece for the pick up shots. He had shaved his head and packed on a little weight for BLACK HAWK DOWN.

And speaking of the EP3 Anakin figure... it's a great sculpt by Andy, but the factory paint is horrible. Almost Faramir horrible, in fact. That's why I'm thrilled I got both that and their EP3 Obi-Wan repainted by DarkArtist when he as at the top of his game. :rock

Still think the modified Anakin's looked a bit better... jawline was too strong on the production figure. But if I remember correctly that was actually (not just rumored to be) a request from Lucasfilm.

But the Ep3 Kenobi is solid, as you said many repaints have proven that.

I would be happy with at least one (two would be better) announcements prior to SDCC and two major reveals at SDCC.

The paint is really bad. I have him in mediocre lighting, so I don't really notice. Have to say I'm really jealous that you got repaints from Josh. To have them both redone would be a beautiful thing.

I can't agree with calling it just 'okay'. 'Okay' is when you need to squint and hold it under certain light to see who it is. On a scale from 1-10, okay would be a 5-6 range, and I think Andy's ROTS sculpt is at least a solid 8. The beard is too thick and the ears seem a little off but it captures the character very well and is easily recognizable as Obi Wan.

:lecture:lecture:lecture More accurately, it would fall in the category of "good, solid figure but not great."
