some of the comments on the story on ESPN are ridiculous. people are actually outraged that Patriots released Hernandez and hope he comes to another team and beats them:cuckoo:. any team/owner of an NFL team would want to distance themselves from a situation like this and i would have been surprised if the Patriots kept him on the team.

EDIT: looks like another player in a unrelated situation is also arrested

Crazy. Browns rookie LB was also arrested and charged with attempted murder after punching a man outside of a club.

What did he punch him with, a brick?

I'm watching the arraignment right now. This is so hard to believe. I genuinely thought I'd be rooting for this guy for the next 10 years.

This is ****ing insane. What a ****ing moron.

I just don't get it these guys have everything going for them and they hand it all away.. Didn't he just sign a 40 mil contract or something?

If I was making the kind of money that even the lowest paying pro athlete makes I would make sure to stay away from anything that could remotely get me trouble. They make more money playing a game than average people make in a lifetime and just throw it all away with stupid decisions

I know it's innocent until proven guilty, but I am astounded by the level of detail being presented. They really have a case and it will be interesting to see the approach of the defense. Seriously, they have everything, but video of him pulling the trigger.

Its because most football players aren't 'normal' people who deal with life decisions and responsibilities. These guys have had everything handed to them their whole life from the time they were teenagers. They're surrounded by agents, managers, and every other type of 'yes men' you can think of. Look how many of them are flat broke or bankrupts within a couple years of them being out of the game. These aren't intelligent people we're talking about.

Yes, this is a broad generalization, but let's be honest, there's more players in the NFL and NBA who fit this category than those who don't.

Doesn't he have a baby born recently? What a waste.

Because he is an immoral thug that didn't learn anything in college other then football. If he had he would never be in this position to begin with regardless of whether he is guilty or innocent. He obviously chose to associate with the wrong people and got himself into this mess. Just goes to show that money can't fix people; especially those who are ****ed up to begin with. Dude obviously has issues. In the future NFL teams should consider psychological profiles of their players. It is a violent sport, players get paid to lieterally run people over, and some individuals may lose themselves in the process. Its no coincidence that football players are linked to more violent crimes then any other professional sport.

:lecture:exactly:
How many more suicides, murders, assaults, etc. do you think it will take before the NFL does something about this? The problem is, by the time these guys reach the NFL, they're usually already to f'd up to be helped.

But hey, NFL keeps raking it in, so as long as they produce on the field, who cares?

I can see some Pats fans frustrated that the team compounded the problem by hurting themselves some here too. Then again, they had to weigh the total PR hit of having him on the roster for the trial compared to letting him go now and eating the cap space. Cutting him is a short term good PR move lending the appearance of substance over money, however long term, it only hampers the Patriots ability to win even more.

thats the thing with the Patriots. He should have know more than other people on other teams that the Patriots organization is know to uphold the image of what the NFL should be. yes they got caught with all the spygate stuff but they took the punishment and moved on.

Police are now trying to link Hernandez with a double homicide from 2012 that is unsolved in Boston's south end with a silver SUV he rented. Wow:slap. It's on CNN
