I wonder how much cap space the Caps have. Maybe they'll go after Nicklas Lidstrom. Even at his age, he would certainly provide some much needed stability to their defence.

While on the topic of defence, what the heck happened to Phaneuf? This guy seemed well on his way to winning a Norris someday...

Caps will have about $4.9 million left after they resign their RFA's. That money should be spend on a 2nd line center and a d-man. They will have to go with Varly and Neuvy in net next year.

I'd like to see them trade Semin and his 6 million dollar cap hit for a d-man and then they could afford a decent vet goalie as well.

I will say this. Yes the Habs did great against those teams. Why? Because they were able to stop and shut down Ovechkin and Crosby. The Habs were good at stopping 1 player in both of those series. With the Flyers they don't have just 1 super star to worry about. The Flyers have everyone scoring and playing at a very high level. Also just because they have made accomplishments doesn't mean they will win. What team that's still in doesn't have accomplishments to brag about? Good luck to the Habs. However, if the Flyers continue to play the way they have then the Habs don't have a prayer. :lecture

Uhhh Backstrom, Semin..

And Pittsburgh has Crosby, Malkin, and yes I consider Staal a superstar in the making. Problem with both those two teams is a lot of guys didn't show up... ala your Semins and your Malkins.

Useless Russians....

The issue, I think, with a lot of players who come over the pond to play in North America might be that they didn't grow up dreaming to hoist the Stanley Cup above their heads. That might be why we don't see too many of them raise their level of play during the playoffs. Perhaps some view a playoff game like they might view a regular season game. In all fairness, it can also be argued that many NA players fail to show up during the playoffs too, e.g., Joe Thornton.

Then again, how do we explain why the Detroit Red Wings have enjoyed so much success with Europeans and Russians on their roster? Probably because there were a lot of them on the team so perhaps they didn't feel as isolated. Who really knows?

I wonder how many people know what the grand prize is in the KHL. Don't know? It's the Gagarin Cup. I wonder how many Canadian kids grow up dreaming of hoisting the Garagin Cup above their heads. Probably not many -- not this year, and probably not in 10 years either -- so it's understandable why some might not be paricularly motivated to win it. Players like Emery, for example, played there for the money and the work, however, probably gave very little of a you-know-what for the KHL cup. In fact, he couldn't get back to the NHL fast enough.

Vandalism in Philly... lol.

Pat Hickey, a sports journalist in Montreal, had his tires slashed, his Quebec license plate stolen, and beer dumped all over his car in the Wachovia parking lot. Yeesh! Tough town!

Guy walks into a bar and orders an Ovechkin. The bartender asks the man what is that? The man replied:
It's a white Russian without a cup.
:lol

I was just wondering which playoffs you were referring to... SJ Sharks website stats show Thornton having played 12 games in the playoffs so far, with 4 assists and 3 goals in the last five games. It wasn't with SJ, was it?

Joe was pretty much a no-show with Boston which is probably the main reason why he was eventually traded to SJ. Also, most sports enthusiasts tend to point the finger at Thornton to explain SJ's seeming inability to get far in the playoffs since he was traded there.

He seems to be performing better this year. However, he's often viewed as a underachiever come playoff time.

Okay, I thought it was probably with Boston... thanks for clearing that up. He seems to be doing pretty well for the Sharks in the playoffs at the moment. They still have a ways to go yet, but I've got a feeling this could finally be the big one for SJ...
