Well as some of you know I quit smoking last April. Since then I have been doing some serious heavy lifting. You know bend the left elbow a little and insert beer in mouth. I have now gained about 12 pounds since I quit smoking. I now need to cut out the beer and get myself back in shape. I plan on doing this by running. When in the Marines I could run about 3 miles in just over 16 minutes and 14 seconds. Not a feat I could even come close to right now. I plan on getting even more in shape now and am very commited. I hate the belly I am starting to get. LOL! Plus not to mention having to buy new clothes to fit me. Which I have had to do twice now.

So I ask has anyone tried this new Ipod + Nike? It basically is a running tool that helps you track your goals. https://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/ I know I need to control this now if I am to stay in shape. I think this just may make me want to work out. I was never one for weights. I just don't believe in that kind of fitness. I like natural things. Like sit ups and running and bike riding. The rest makes me bored just thinking about it.

I thought I would also make this to track my progress. Having your feedback and support really helped me quit smoking. I know it sounds dumb but by God it really did help me. Thanks again FREAKS! So here I go again with another step. I am excited and can't wait to start. I think it will be a few weeks to iron out the plan.

I need to lose a few Lbs. too man, I'll be right there with ya in the fight! :rock

Sounds good Ill. I am such a lasy damn *******. :lol It will not be easy. My plan is to wake up at least 3 days a week at around 5:30am and run until around 6:00am. Then shower and go to work. I hate waking up early I really do. It sucks. It has to be done at this point. I am glad I have your support as well! Thank well........... :rock:rock:rock:rock

getting up early = :monkey4

getting up early + running = :monkey4:monkey2

think of all the good money, beer & gaming spent building up that physique, you get rid of that & your erasing all those memories :D:lol

I get up at 4 AM for work, so morning is outta the ? for me. I need to set aside some time to run in the evening and not just jump on LIVE when I get home. I also need to change my eating habits for the better. You have my support as long as I get yours as well. :rock

I am with you guys too, I actually went out and got a new mt bike over the weekend so I could get back out and ride.

trust me guys, the best time to make a promise is not new year, these ones get taken lightly & put off after 3 months (as the always next year)

If serious, wait until spring or summer when the mornings are nicer& a lot easier to convince yourself to go out. Until then just make dietary changes

Me and my wife bought really nice bikes the summer before last and then quit using them. We were much too lasy. I really want to change this. It bothers me.

Ill you have my support with no matter what you do.

I don't eat bad Karma. Believe it or not I hate breads, cakes, candy, and even desserts. I am a red meat and potatoe guy. I just am gaining weight from quitting smoking and drinking to damn much. I am also not one for new years resolutions. To hell with them. This is a decision I have made. F the new year. If I make a goal I try my ass off to reach it.

I've thought about running in the morning many-a-times. The problem is, the only time I'd be able to run is the morning, and I am far too lazy to wake up early. I guess that's not the only problem, the other problem is that I don't own any running shoes.

Running *may* be my new year's resolution though. Between the booze and the holiday eats, I'm starting to look a little Pillsbury Dough-Boy-ish. So bring on the SSF Fit Club! :lol

Major congrats on quitting smoking! I'll never truly understand how hard it is as I never really smoked, but I have a pretty good idea after seeing the hell my wife went through to quit.

As for Nike+iPod, I've been interested in the tech since it was announced a while back, but haven't really looked into it.

I need to put on weight. Any sugestions, you fat *******s?:D

Lots of booze. Lots of video games.

Good luck, BadMoon!!! You too Ill:D

LOL! When I joined the Marines I weighed about 120. LOL! My recruiter made me eat a **** load of Bannanas before I weighed in. That seems to work. Or just get older and lasy. :rotfl

good luck dude

I had a few friends that quit smoking & they put on wait as well, it's very common as you replace one vice with another

it's the spare hand syndrome.......the hand that used to hold the cigarette got bored & replaced it with a beer can :lol:D

Same here, this is a change that is necessary , I don't want it to get out of hand. Not that I ever would.

My wife has one and seems to love it so far (she got it as an Xmas present). Tracking your stats is cool and customization of sound tracks to your running pattern is really cool too.

I feel your pain Bro... I've gained so much weight too. But lately I gained some ground... And I can give you a few tips. First of all, cut out ALL High Fructose Corn Syrup items. It's in damn near everything and contributes to a lot of fat cells in the body. It's in cereal, soda, Ice cream, and in many other items you would never believe. But trust me, you cut that out... and you will lose 5 pounds in NO time. Trust me.

Cut the beer down to 1 a day, possibly 1 every other day. You don't have to give it up altogether, just limit it a bit.

Replace your favorite snacks with healthier alternatives... Almonds, mixed nuts, cheese sticks or Sugar free Jell-O. Cut out bread and potatoes altogether, they are another reason for guts on men and will only hurt your progress.

Do all of this and run your ass off and I promise the fat will melt away faster than you will believe.

Awesome Bagels! I am buying all the gear this week! I guess my power loader will have to wait. :monkey2 This is more important though. I have stewed over this for a while.

Try changing your diet. Replacing coke and Snapple and other sugary drinks with water can reduce your caloric intake by hundreds a day (depending on how much you drink now). Eat meat once a week. Stop eating fried foods and limit your snack intake to 1 serving (which is surprisingly small compared to what people would generally eat in one sitting). Also, stop eating fast food. Cooking your own food takes time, but you know exactly what's going into it and it's one more thing to keep you busy when craving a smoke.

The diet change alone will make you feel better and shed that pounds. Add exercise and you're set.
