Nintendo just confirmed that they will be releasing an attachment for the 3DS that allows for a second circle pad/slider. It will be released this December. Will require 1AAA battery.

First games to use it (optionally):
Resident Evil Revelations
Metal Gear Solid 3D
Ace Combat 3D
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
Monster Hunter 3G

In other 3DS news, a November update will bring 3D video recording and a revamped e-shop.

If I could say, the 2nd slider attachment is hideous, clumsy looking and is obviously an embarrassing admission from Nintendo that they are clumsily making up for a major design oversight. It does add much needed control functionality...but still, it's ugly.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Ugh..yeah I agree. That's lousy looking stuff. It's probably an early response to the release of the Vita. It reminds me of the days when they'd slap an attachment on a dying console, like the 32X. Never a good thing.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

it puts developers in a bind also... many modern games utilize dual analog controls, but how will they warrant designing with them in mind as a large percentage of 3DS owners do not have them...

nintendo will ultimately include them in the next version of the hardware... their only move is to give this attachment away to first gen buyers. software developers and the future of the system are depending on it.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Does it seem to anyone else that what gamers need to do from now on is to not buy a system until it's been out for 1 year? With hardware changes and systems dying it just seems that we need to wait.

New pics from Nintendo's Sept. 13 Conference:

Forgot to mention that the new add-on adds more shoulder buttons.

Even though it's still quite ugly, it at least looks comfortable to hold, though I worry about people with small hands (kids).

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Wow, I'm really tempted to just sell my 3DS now and wait for the next model to come out. I don't use it too much anyway, and that would at least give me more of the costs back than it will for me to wait to sell it until the next model is announced.

At first I didn't care, but now with this peripheral I know they must be working on some way to integrate it and a longer battery life down the road.

I will say that this is the first time I really have doubt with a console that Nintendo has made. Seems like they're back pedaling now that they realize that there is a real threat from a competitor's console.

I think the Vita will fail too. It's mobile devices that will end up killing the dedicated handhelds.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I don't think mobile games will be a huge problem. Touch screen gaming just has too many limitations. The casual market will be a battle for N and Sony, but there's still a gaming market for a handheld. Probably not the though. I had just assuming the 3DS would rape like all the other N handhelds, but they've made some real mistakes starting out and the Vita looks like a real threat now.

My thoughts exactly. Why isn't there a second stick? Are they going to make a gigantic circle pad pro accessory? Dumb dumb dumb.
