Nintendo is now the Medicom of gaming consoles.

Kiddie toy, previous gen quality at high-end, next gen prices.

I'm sad to say that I look forward to the day that I take my Wii outside and put it to bed. For some reason I really hate my Wii. :(

I have to say I didn't get much use out of my wii. I'm hoping the new system gets more use. I pretty much buy all of the consoles because eventually there will be something I want to play on it and I hate being limited like that. This one will be no different.

I think they have a pill for that.:nana::lol

I enjoy the Wii, but honestly I am not a hardcore gamer and enjoy it for being a fun group system or entertaining distraction.

I'll likely pick up the new system and stick the Wii in the bedroom and primarily use it for Netflix.

I received an e-mail from Nintendo with a video showing off some mini games. They all looked like Wii games. However, the more I read about it, the more I learn that the video Nintendo sent out really doesn't advertise what the system can do. It's supposed to be a full-fledged new console, not just an add-on. I'm wondering what the price will be.

That remote is pretty huge... wonder if you need the screen for all games, or just for single player? I'd hate to have to buy 4 of those :lol

I think Nintendo's biggest F-up was that they didn't show the whole damn thing. They didn't even say much about the graphics it can put out either. Most people I'm sure were wondering just what I was in that it looked to be just an add on of the Wii.

They should have shown some 3DS stuff and then revealed the Wii-U completely while explaining its power. Instead they decided to confuse the hell out of everyone and leave us wondering what the hell this thing is.

I've got a Wii and haven't played it in over a year. Same for the 360.

I'll probably buy a system to play the future Res. Evil and Metal Gear. Relative graphical capabilities and gimmicks don't matter to me so much as game license. . .which sucks when you have to buy a Nintendo to get Zelda, XBox to get Halo, and Playstation to get Metal Gear. Bah.

All of the demo videos I've seen have shown one Wii U controller (or whatever they're calling that screen thing) with other players using traditional Wii Remotes.

They are saying that currently the system can only use one tablet/controller at a time. They will not sell them seperately.

Just to end this debate..

Nintendo Gamecube
CPU 486 MHz
GPU 162 MHz
RAM 43 MB

Sony Playstation 2
CPU 294.912 MHz (launch) 299 MHz (newer models)
GPU 147.456 MHz
RAM 36 MB

As far as power, for the sixth generation of consoles:

Xbox > Gamecube > PS2 > Dreamcast

But when it comes to sales (which is all that matters) the PS2 stomped all 3 combined. Which is why it won that generation of the console wars. Just like this generation (7th) was won by the Nintendo Wii which stomped out both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

And what's funny is, just like the PS2 before it, the Wii wasn't the most powerful system but it WAS the most popular. Which is why they won; because it doesn't matter how powerful or tech heavy a console is, if it doesn't catch on with consumers, it fails. Period.

Now about the Wii-U controller:

It looks GINORMAGANTIC!!!! But oddly it looks really comfortable in the YouTube video!? Weird. :dunno

ive always thought that Nintendo made controllers that feel natural when your playing a game. i think this Wii-U controller will be be the same.

They are saying that currently the system can only use one tablet/controller at a time. They will not sell them seperately.

Makes sense. Iwata (or Reggie?) said during the presentation that the Wii U is handling all the processing and just sending video to the controller. It would be kinda taxing on the system to do that for more than one controller, I'd imagine.

They are saying that currently the system can only use one tablet/controller at a time. They will not sell them seperately.

That kind of sucks. It would be cool to be able to play something like Madden head to head where each controller screen has their own playbook so you can't get an idea of what plays the other person is looking at.

It seems like they didn't really plan this out very well. They really need to have it as something that you can use multiple new controllers.

This is all getting setup to be a big failure. Not only is Nintendo not prepared for any of their own games a year from release (They said they haven't even started working on Smash Bros.) but the games from other developers will have been out for a minimum of 6 months on other systems before the console comes out. Plus it looks like they really didn't plan out the hardware very well.

Another example of how Dreamcast was well ahead of the times. :rock

Well, they are looking into making it possible to use two Wii-U controllers at once. https://kotaku.com/5809706/nintendo-looking-into-games-that-support-two-new-controllers

They haven't said whether it's because of technological limitations or just that having people buy multiples of the controller would be pricey.

Excellent. Thank you.

Bad comparison.

Medicom isn't #1 when it comes to collectibles right now. Nintendo IS when it comes to gaming consoles.

And "$250 - $300" is NOT "next gen prices". That's on par with what the Wii retailed for ($249.99). And cheaper than what the Xbox 360 ($399) and PS3 ($599) originally retailed for. And this is for a brand new 8th generation console. More like "last gen prices".

Good luck trying to buy Microsoft's or Sony's next gaming consoles for that price at launch. :lol

I think it can retail at that price because the tech in the actual system itself (not the new controller) is more affordable at this point.

If it's on par with 360 and PS3 power I can understand why it wouldn't be too expensive. If it went beyond their capabilities I can see it costing more. Most of the cost is probably due to the contablet.
