Agreed, Richard Pryor was hillarious.

Can you imagine that in today's overly PC world if this skit had aired on SNL. FCC would have been handing out fines to everyone. Somehow Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would get involved. Geraldo would probably do an overnight vigil for the "victims." It would be the subject on "the View" for the next week.

This was when TV was good. Too many damn overly sensitive pus sies to get offended too easily these days.

the sad thing is, is that it's only racist if white people say it...al sharpton (being the racist mofo he is) or jesse jackson never got themselves involved when chris rock called oprah a slave girl, when he saw a childhood picture of her...oprah laughed, the audience laughed EVERYONE found it funny.

point is..if a white person saw oprah's child hood picture, and said "you look like a slave!" there would be a huge uproar in the media, and an apology would have to be made

The old stuff doesn't cease to exist because social mores have changed. The Popeye cartoons that were released recently contained the original, sometimes offensive uncensored cartoons, and I think that is a good thing. These cartoons are important historically for their influence on cartoons and entertainment, as well as for their reflection of the times, and should be made available, IMO.

Same goes for "Song of the South." Just because this stuff should not be created in the modern world doesn't mean that we should blind ourselves to the past.

As much as I think this stuff should be available, people who are uneducated about these things would probably be shocked and pissed off if they bought the old cartoons for their kids and ran across some of this stuff. I'm sure that's what Time Warner and Disney are afraid of. I think it demonstrates that these companies hold a very low opinion of their overall audience, but this is probably the correct opinion to hold.

Companies usually don't go broke under-estimating their customers.

i'm not sure there needs to be the extreme reactions from people with the hyperbole of comparing people criticizing this to Nazi book burnings or something. Nor is this the worst thing to ever occur on television.

From a personal level, I just don't see how defending these goofballs makes any sense considering the only purpose to do the black face was to take their crappy yet bland performance into a crappy yet controversial performance. Do they have a right to be racist fools? Sure. Do people have a right to call them racist fools? Absolutely. Basically they bated for the reaction and now these people that are overly concerned about political correctness is getting mad that people have that reaction.
