I really liked the original rooted beard, but if it was going to end up like Dumbledore's beard then I'm all for sculpted frankly. :lol I'm not a huge fan of sculpted and rooted hair being joined together (I think it often looks messy and unnatural) but that doesn't look too bad really. I'd need some closer pics of the head to decide though. :)

:exactly: my view. :goodpost: I prefer rooted too, but if they can't get it right then sculpted is the only way to go. I just hope they can go rooted (and get it right) with the Dumbledores.

I hope this means we will be getting sculpted beards for Dumbledore..... he is the one who needs it the most.

Yeah im not sure im liking the combo either. I liked the rooted beard. It just had to be refined at the rooting site. This is harry potters chewbacca. We need a fully haired hagrid

i found these again. i really dont think it looks bad . oh well. either way. im getting him :wink1:

A question for the people that prefer sculpted:

Forgetting the above rooted prototype pictures (because I don't think that's fair), if rooted was done right/looked better/futzed properly, would you still want sculpted?

I'm honestly interested because there seems to be more people going for sculpted both here and Facebook and I really don't see it. IMO the rooted has potential to look amazing, but sculpted will only ever look "OK".

I agree with Anx10us, rooted would definitely be the way to go with this particular character if done right. The proto wasn't bad, but could be better. It is riskier but I hope they can make the rooted version work.

I thought the rooted beard looked terrible. I don't think they can pull it off, so I would prefer sculpted myself.

Absolutely no, I would want rooted. But I don't think they can pull it off.

I still think Dumbledore sculpted is a bad idea. His beard is way too long for it to do anything than severely limit articulation. Just in general long hair looks terrible sculpted. Think Asmus' Gandalf. The sculpted hair and beard stretched him out, making him look dour, and prevented him from moving his head. Dumbledore's beard is long enough to reach his belt. There is no way they could make a sculpted version (in my opinion) that could work.

They just need to work more on the rooting. Especially because when/if they get that right, they'll officially be leaders in it. Anyway, I'm holding off on the preorder until I'm sure they're not going sculpted considering he's undergoing a revision.

I'm sticking with rooted I think (if they get it right, of course!), like some have said, it has the potential to look amazing and keeps the feel of him looking life-like there. Mixing the two is.. i'm not sure, looks okay but there's just something about it? :dunno

I think it either needs to be rooted or sculpted, not both. I suppose it depends on the buyer also, with some work you could make the rooted look amazing, sculpted is less maintenance.

Look at Asmus Saruman - pretty much a success.

Rooting beards is very, very difficult and doesn't work in production 4 times out of 10.

Personally I don't really care if it limits head movement. I'd rather have a Dumbledore who needs to keep his head facing forward rather than a Dumbledore who looks like he's wearing the world's worst Santa beard from the dollar store. :rotfl

At Universal Orlando this weekend. Harry and Voldemort are $360 each. Ron is $340. No others available.
