Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

LoL :lol

Like i said before, not everything needs answers, and not everything needs to be spelled out for you. Some films want you to think about things beyond what the movie showed. A lot of avant garde films did that and im sure Ridley is a fan of those, like Bergman, Greenaway, Cocteau, and even ones older. Silent films did just that, the audience filled in a lot of blanks with their imagination. A lot of filmmakers will tell you that great films shouldn't even need sound.

Im not saying Scott is trying to do that here, Im not Scott, i don't know what his true intentions were, but I for one like movies that make you think about things and make you want to learn more.

of course not everything needs to be spelled out for you, of course not,
silent hill is a good example, district 9, the first matrix, is another good example, im not saying those movies are good or not, is just movies that didnt spell out everything and the audience had to guess some of it (although silent hill had its share of plotholes)

no one wants to be spoon fed, but like devil said, when you have to create an entire new movie in your mind to justify what you just saw is just bad writing, one thing is to not be spoon fed, but when you have to speculate as much as everyone has, pretty much creating entire movies in their heads to justify the bad writing, thats just not good

100 up is big budget. 60 below is low budget. In Hollywood terms.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

well, im not feeling like i need to create another movie in my mind, I feel pretty satisfied with this first story. A few things i needed to work out and maybe another viewing I will pick up on some more details like a lot of movies do. Was the dialogue bad? ehh, no better or worse than previous Alien movies. It wasn't like amazing dialogue or anything.

I just enjoyed the movie a lot, i was very intrigued by his ideas and id love to see and know more and hope they get a chance to continue the story.

yeah I understand that, it just felt like everyone was ganging up on devil when he is kinda right,
if you liked the movie thats fair, but what he said is fair too, a lot of people are not happy with the movie, or, they are confused

He's not right. Devi's the ____, but dude just hates things for the LOLZ.

I love the ambiguity. Makes it fun. Makes it interesting.

:D

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

I just cant help but feel that any time you have so many people arguing over what took place, or saying you have to go read this, that and the other extra material in order to try to grasp the plot of any given entertainment.... that this means the entertainment in question has failed.

People are not paying money to be confused, or to have to do extra reading. That is just a fail. Nice-looking movie but fail.

I for one do not want to spoil the film beforehand by doing extracurricular reading so that I can try to understand the plot when I actually get to see it. I should be able to decipher whats going on just by watching the film.... and later if I want to read, great. But I shouldn't HAVE TO read.

I thought that was the Queen at the top when they showed it in the movie. :slap

BB

Its quite obviously a Queen, with a completed warrior drone beneath her. I dont see how it could be anything else, tbh.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

:dunno Had the same feeling as the reviewer, except there was no ambivolence when I left the theatre, NOPE, it sucked, and I felt like a zombie walking out into the night waiting for that well deserved cranial head shot to oblivion.

:peace

No I'm not talking about his like or dislike of the film. I just think he acts like a douche. Sorry you didn't like the film. :peace

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

I guess what should have happened was the ship crashed and all the Aliens collapsed like the droids in Phantom Menace, maybe that would have been a better ending? :dunno

I completely agree with this.

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

To create a Xenomorph, a human is needed (one must become infected with the fluid, then impregnate a fellow human being -- the resulting "baby" poses a threat to both species)

If we are speculating that the xenos have been around along time before the events of Prometheus how did the Engineers create the first xeno?

Well they were on this planet thousands of years ago, going by the paintings on cave walls.
Maybe that was a human's purpose, to help create the Xenomorph, they might have taken to some humans away to be impregnated, like a sacrifice to the gods?
Now we are in AVP territory :lol

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

Ridely talks about the deleted scenes that will be included on the blu ray release:

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

Maybe it will have more footage of a spaceship that just happens to fall from the clouds and roll onto the humans when it could have landed anywhere!!

And more footage of someone just rolling to their right to avoid it.

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

Maybe it's a different species altogether the proto Xeno is nice xenomorphs existed at the time already. When Shaw looks at the murals, you see a xenomorph and a face hugger on the wall murals. This means xeno existed during Prometheus took place. Maybe it's a different species althogher. Like super and mainstream predators.

Exactly. Research should enhance a film. It should not be required.

I just felt the movie was missing a lot of character development. Characters like the pilot and Vickers seemed like they had lots of scenes cut. Weyland appearing almost of of nowhere also gave me the feeling that there were scenes of him cut. The female doctor in the movie gave me the feeling like she was important an then suddenly she was a bad guy and we weren't supposed to care that she was bashed against a wall. The engineers were so cool until suddenly they are just Frankenstein's monster and they want to kill everything. WTH was up with that? I'd also like a scene that shows how acid can melt plastic on to ones face and then magically the plastic is gone when you turn in to a zombie.

The film was good for about the first 3/4s and then it seemed like they tried to fit a bunch in at the end. I think the whole final scene with the engineer in the escape pod was pointless and the birth at the end was 100% unneeded. I hope we get a VERY extended cut on the DVD.
