Hey all,

The stock SS ANH Vader has the makings of a great figure...just put together all wrong. There are the obvious mistakes, like size of body and cape and tunic material being all wrong. But the dome issue is just placement. Here is my slightly modded ANH Vader. I modded the stock gigantic sideshow body so he now stands 13 1/2" from top of dome to bottom of boot I also narrowed the shoulders a lot. As for the facemask and dome I repainted the mask correctly with the brush marks and sprayed original SS dome with satin black and set it down to the proper ANH height. Need to get a new set of lforigno cape and tunic. But with some minor alterations it can look amazing. As with all things Vader photographic perspective is key. The Vader helmet is very hard to photograph correctly in any scale. Let me know what you think. :)

I just received my ANH Vader. This is the first time I've seen one in person. WOW!

My thanks to Short Round for doing the KP02 mod and also adding some leg extenders. The figure now stands at 13 1/2 inches tall which I think is an excellent representation of David Prowse in the costume.

Short Round was a real pleasure to deal with and I really appreciate his time and patience putting this together for me. :)

Yeah, it does look great.

Has anyone spray painted the SS dome that dull coat everyone is using? I've seen it on the Hasbro dome.

Thanks so much galactiboy. You really helped me out with that dome. I've got another dome which is still shiny (Short Round put some dull coat on this one). Not sure which one I prefer yet. I may try and modify the Sideshow dome too because the profile seems to be more accurate so I think it may look good if the flare from the front is widened.

Really happy with this awesome figure though.

Chris

I recognize that dome... :lol

Looks great man :rock

Great picture cking, awesome lineup. The Vader looks fantastic.

I sprayed my dome with dullcoat as well. It is amazing how much better it looks afterwards. Thanks for the tips guys. :)

WTF? Looks amazing here. :exactly:

So, if I were to mod my stock SSC Vader helmet, how would I go about doing such a thing? To dremel out the helmet in the correct fashion and, the proper paint application? I really like what I am seeing!

I know a lot of people like the dull helmet, but in ANH his dome isn't that dull. I see more scenes of his dome being glossier than it is dull. To each his own I guess.

Yes, the helmet was painted gloss black (but didn't have a gloss clear coat on it in ANH) which is why it doesn't look as shiny as the ESB / ROTJ version.

In the movie, they applied photographer's "dulling cote" to the dome - presumably because they didn't want the helmet to reflect the lighting / camera crew etc. Photographer's use this stuff a lot if they're photographing really shiny items.

I want to try adding some of this photographer's dulling cote to the shiny Sideshow dome to see how it looks. The good thing about it is that it's a non-permanent effect that can be wiped off. Maybe not the best idea if the figure is going to be re-posed a lot.

I prefer the look in the screen cap, it should have a little shine.
