You forgot about the "sideshow update" philosophy.

They wont leave them looking like a retarded Kris Kross.

Not really. They don't work unless they're opposites and while the figures do have an updated look, they're still all heavily influenced by the originals (and most can be displayed to look almost exactly like their vintage counterparts). So in that vein, regardless of what's "updated," Sideshow will make them opposites.

does the jacket just unzip or is it attached somehow at the bottom (like the hot toys captain america leather jacket)..

I attempted to take it off but got nervous as it didnt look to be happening

The jacket zips all the way down to the bottom where it is stopped by a clip that joins both sides. You can't completely unzip the jacket and if you remove the clip, you may have a hard time getting the halves of the jacket to zip again.

Zip down to the clip and you can remove the jacket by carefully sliding it upwards off the body/arms. Put it back on the reverse of how you remove it (arms raised vertical).

I wonder whether the body being developed for the DC figures will feature a more detailed neck/chest area that could work for the twins (as well as several other joes). Probably 3 years off though.

Yep, the zipper is not meant to be completely undone.
I found it's easiest to just slide the jacket off the body going down over the legs with the hands, pants, and boots removed.

Didn't they say the dc body was going to used, or redesigned for use on destro?

What we got with Rock 'n' Roll and Zartan is a great sign of things to come if they keep it in that vein. The arms on those bodies have a fuller range of motion than the TTM19, which is awesome.

But yeah, the Guardsman are awesome...but for some reason I'm not pressed to bash a few like I did with the Vipers.
