Seriously? Man, that's barely worth the $10 shipping charge. I'd better get something more substantial or I'm going to be pretty upset. I'll probably get nailed for at least $20 in duty fees, to boot.

Yeah, kind of disappointing when I read on the board about the exclusive Harbingers given out :banghead. and that 16 lb-er (did it turn out to be Lord of Darkness Legendary Scale Bust?)

I was so psyched up for something chainsaw-related, then the Fed Ex guy handed me the tiny box with the "wicked" wee little Kiss Kubrick figures.

"Hey, I'm the tiny Gene Simmons...go get me a beer out of the fridge or I'll kick your big toe."

Oh well. You spin the wheel, you take your chances.

I agree with Kabuki. It's not that you are a bad person, but re-read what you previously posted. It comes across as ungrateful and selfish for a free prize. You should be happy that you won something among the "75" winners in the MOTW contest. You knew that it's a mystery prize and that you would have to cover the cost of shipping. Sure it's a gamble as far as what comes in, but it was a choice that you (like everybody else) made. I'm sure a lot of others would've liked to have won that portion of the contest. Bottom line is be happy with whatever you get and don't whine over a freebie.

You misunderstand my point. When you win a supposedly "free" item from a contest, but are required to pay shipping, applicable taxes AND duty fees, should the value of the prize not at least exceed the amount spent to get it?

So you'd be okay with spending $20 to claim your prize in a lottery, and you're rewarded with a shiny new $10 bill? That's my point.

Whether it's KISS, or The Dead, or Resident Evil is irrelevant, but when the majority of winners are getting 12-inch figures, VCDs and whatnot, you've gotta figure that the guy who gets a $10 action figure set is going to be a little miffed.

In any case, there's no point worrying about it until the thing actually arrives. I still haven't even gotten my shipping notice yet. For all I know, I'll get the Blackbeard PF and all my rant will have been for naught. One can dream...

I got my shipping notice. LOTR frames that I won in chat and a Jason LDD for my 75. On top of the species maquette from chat and a BW Mort from furystorm, it was a good year this Spook. :banana:banana

The problem is that the Medicom Kubrick "action figure" Set that you are mentioning and trying to make a point of is worth $55 on Sideshow's site. That Kiss set is comparable in value to VCD's, Harbingers, & Jason LDD's that they are also giving out for free. It's not $10 that you are trying to make a point of.

Another point that you are failing to understand is the shipping aspect. The majority of us had to pay domestic shipping. In your case, the free item carries the extra applicable taxes and duty fees. I have a hard time believing that you didn't know about the extra charges by shipping internationally. MOTW made it clear that we are assuming responsibility for any shipping charges of the prize (which could've been declined with the shipping quote). Even if you are paying $30 in shipping costs you are still getting a $50+ item. Whatever the case, it was your decision to take them up on the shipping quote and take your chance on a mystery prize.

Actually, I was well aware of my responsibility for paying shipping and duty fees. $30 is negligible when you're getting a $140+ Hot Toys figure. However, I was unaware that the KISS set sells for $50+. I saw "Kubricks" and immediately assumed we were talking about typical, standard Kubricks/Minimates, and couldn't fathom that a 4-figure set would be all that expensive. I guess these are somewhat limited, or are more expensive due to being an international or licensed product...

Again, though, I think it would have been nice to get an email that indicated what I had won so I could choose to forego my prize and let someone else have it who may appreciate it more than I. Kinda like cancelling a pre-order so someone on the wait list can benefit.

You're right, though, that you take your chances with "mystery" prizes. Lesson learned, I guess.
