Wayans' Munsters Movie Lives On
Source: Movie Picture Film
November 29, 2007

Three years have past since Universal Pictures announced it was partnering with brothers Keenen Ivory, Shawn and Marlon Wayans for a modern take on "The Munsters." Three years of silence with not a single update on the project. That's three years of bliss for this die-hard "Munsters" fan.

A recent interview with Shawn Wayans at Movie Picture Film reveals the film is still in the works. "'The Munsters' is going to be PG-13 as well," Wayans tells the site, addressing the issue of PG-13 versus R-rated comedies. "You know what happened with the rated R thing is that we were doing our rated R comedies and then they started clamping down on kids going into the theater. So kids would still be sneaking into our movie but would be paying to see something else. So none of the box office went to our movie, yet everyone still saw it. Business wise, it made it tough for us to continue doing them."

Wayans didn't indicate how far along they are on "The Munsters" nor did he discuss any plot details.

:monkey4 The Wayans make films for chuckles but I am about 100% sure that they will rape the Munsters beyond belief.........:monkey2

Why can't classic shows be left well enough alone? Has the well run that dry in Hollywood? I loved the Munsters growing up, I really don't want to see any reincarnation of it, regardless of who makes it. Hollywood loves to hit up old Tv shows, Brady Bunch(somehow TWO movies were made!) ,The Honeymooners, Bewitched, etc.......I loved Get Smart and like Steve Catrell but I have mixed feelings about that film, what else is down the pipe? Three's Company? Roseanne?....C'mon Hollywood, open up your doors to the creative writers that have been shut out for years and take chance!...... maybe it's just me?

I'm sure I'm going to get grief for this, but I liked the first Addams Family movie. :blackbat:blackbat:blackbat

But other than that...for the most part Hollywood's rehashing of old TV sucks. And blows.

I totally agree. The Addams Family films were good, the first one was fantastic IMO. But this just sounds like a dumb idea really. Wayans as the Munsters? No freakin way. :monkey4

I would be right there with you guys on this film but I made a big mistake pre-judging Transformers and that was one of the best films of the summer.
If they make it I will have to see a trailer before I decide if I will see it.
I think the Wayans brothers are comedic geniuses, but I also think the original Munsters show wasn't all that good. We shall see.

Well, I think I can say with no reservation at all that this will suck ass.

If people didn't go to these then they wouldn't be made, instead you've got all these people claiming their childhood is being raped but they are the first people in line plunking down coin to witness it, plus they give it a bunch of publicity (there is no such thing as bad pub)

Just shut up and ignore the movie is even being made and you'll be doing yourself a favor.

I wish someone would do us all a favor and kill these idiots.

It is after all for the 'Greater Good'.

Saying that this is a bad idea is an insult to bad ideas everywhere.

The new Honeymooners was a travesty. Trying to take on the role created by, and FOR, the Great One, was a profoundly stupid idea. But trying to duplicate Fred Gwynne's Herman Munster is even worse. He was a perfect comic caricature of Frankenstien's monster. How do you caricature a caricature and do it well?
