I think the way to get a home which can withstand tornado would be like those in Dragonball, round shaped houses made of concrete/cement with strong structure & support.

For underground you'd need to build a wall to slow the water from going in & a diesel pump to pump sufficient water out.

My place don't have tornadoes but rainy season can really give some people headache with simple floods. Can't imagine tornado or tsunamis.

I just bought a house here in chicago, well the burbs..It has a crawl space and the entrance to that is outside. We do not get tornados like you guys do, but its always on my mind on what I would do if one were to occur. The bathroom is the only place to go in our house, then it go me thinking how they said you had to be underground for this one that hit Moore. So if they told me this and I couldnt get to my neighbors house I would get my kids into the crawl space which is actually pretty nice and open.

Then I think about possibly being trapped down there and flooding as with the kids in the school and the basement.

My heart goes out to everyone. Great job by the first responders who are trained to do this, even when you are trained its hard. But a great job to those who are just helping and are not trained. Takes a lot of courage.
