I love excl's as much as the next guy, but there nothing elite about paying an extra $15 [plus framing] for that pathetic print...the word sucker does come to mind though.



My Venom just arrived and it is a terrific sculpt, but it couldn't even beat out the Iron Man Mark 1 maquette in it's own category. The Berserker destroyed all comers in the PF category [a much tougher division IMO] with well over twice the votes of the 2nd place Indy PF, and almost twice the total votes of venom....collectors have overwhelmingly spoken and it's not even close.

not all comers...sabretooth tops berserker easily imo....if you are talking about 2009 then berserker is the best pf..but sabretooth,and wolv imo,tops berserker.

With all the amazing in hand pic's already posted you don't honestly believe that those who haven't received their Venom yet have refrained from voting do you? And do you honestly believe if it came down to a "popularity contest" the least sought after [of the 3 SS could have potentially made] Iron Man suit could even remotely compete with SS's most sought after Marvel villain of the past several years?....I don't think so. I would agree with you if we were talking about a 1/4 scale Mark III maquette, but no way with the Mark I.

Here's my perspective. I own both the Mark I maquette and the Venom comiquette. The difference being I have wanted [and ordered] the Venom comiquette since the day it was first announced. The Mark I Iron Man, I had absolutely no interest in whatsoever until I saw one for the first time about 3 weeks ago. But I was so impressed upon seeing one in person, I decided to order one for myself. IMO both the sculpt and paint app's of the Mark I simply blow Venom right out of the water. The sculpt is much more complex, detailed, and would have been mucher harder to "pull off" successfully. Same goes with the paint app's.
And I won't even bother discussing which excl. is better, that would be pointless.
At this point I can safely say of all the 19 2009 PF's, and maquettes/comiquettes I own, the Mark I maquette is definitely in my "Top 5" list. Venom is not, even though, as a character, I much prefer it to the Mark I Iron Man.

On the Venom piece, I wasn't happy with the online pics Sideshow provided. In fact, I felt mediocre about it, kind of the same way about the Mark I after seeing those online pics. A lot of people were voting based on in-hand Mark I vs. online Venom pics.

However, when I opened the box upon arrival, and sat the statue up, I was just instantly blown away. That's the difference between the two. I will say, I'm a big fan of 'ferociousness'. That's why the Berserker appeals to me, and that's why Venom appeals to me.

Look at the responses to Venom in this thread. I haven't seen this type of overwhelming positive response to Sideshow piece since the Berserker. I certainly didn't see this type of response in the Iron Man Mark I thread.

If my vote was based on which character I like the most Venom would be the easy choice. But that is something anyone can do and it requires absolutely no thought. I saw the great in hand pic's of Venom and I wasn't blown away when I opened mine because I got exactly what I was expecting. While the Venom sculpt is very good it is not even remotely as complex as the Mark I and the paint app's are fairly straightforward, nothing to write home about. Though I was less than impressed at how sloppy mine was, a complaint that I have heard more than once. I actually had to take some black paint and touch up several areas. Now there's no doubt Venom has received alot of good press since it's release and why not? It's a rock solid sculpt and an extremely popular character. And let's face it, while you may not have been happy with SS's prod. pic's of Venom, that still hasn't stopped people from going ga ga over this comiquette since day one. It has been one of SS's most anticipated releases of the year, and infinitely more anticipated than the Mark I ever was. Yet with all that going for it, it is still a distant second in SS's poll. Seems to me if people really thought Venom was the best maquette/comiquette of 2009 that would be reflected in the results, and so far that simply isn't the case. And I'm not suggesting these polls are the "end all be all", but I would love to know where all the Venom supporters are.

I agree with everything you have said woods... (except the Mark I being better part).

My argument is that I think the Sideshow poll was rigged by someone really wanting to see the Mark I win, and I also believe a lot of people were still waiting to receive their Venom statue.

I put up a poll, let's see what happens. It's public, so we'll know who's voting for what.

I agree with everything you have said woods... (except the Mark I being better part).

My argument is that I think the Sideshow poll was rigged by someone really wanting to see the Mark I win, and I also believe a lot of people were still waiting to receive their Venom statue.

I definitely see Fly's point here. If EVERYONE had their Mark I in hand and their Venom in hand, I think it would make for a much better poll.

In fact I find the pose boring compared to the Venom. Too generic for my liking, as for the ultimate Mark I piece... look to Hot Toys 1/6 version. Cheaper and smaller, but vastly superior and much more detailed and complex than SideShow's 1/4 offering.

Surely you have been around long enough to realize pic's never do justice to piece, no matter how good those pic's are. And surely you know how to read, though at this point I have to wonder. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, and never have. I haven't told anyone which statue they should like better, I have simply given my personal opinion and stated what that opinion is based on. Did you somehow miss the part where I stated I appreciate the Mark I more because the sculpt is more detailed and complex. Your really don't have to be a pro sculptor to recognize how much work went into putting this piece together, it was obviously a very labour intensive sculpt and while I do not think much of the Mark I character I do appreciate all the time and effort that went into creating it. I also think the light up chest looks great, and no matter whet you think of the excl., it is 1000X better than that Venom print. Like I also said before, if I were to base my decision on which character I like more I would have chosen Venom hands down....I simply chose a less simplistic method of making my decision.

I wasn't trying to defend my stance, and know what it is. I was merely responding to Eli's commenting about me trying to change his mind.... that was never my intention. I do, however, agree wholeheartedly with you comment on the Venom excl....it does stink.

And I must commend you on your completely unbiased, non-manipulative poll.

Because of it we learned that Venom is a much more popular character than the Mark I IM. Oh wait, we already knew that...never mind.

We learned that SS screwed up on the Venom paint app's [ie brown nails]. Oh wait , we already knew that as well.

We learned that Eli and Ecekat are related. Something most of us suspected, but didn't know for sure.
