Could someone post this because I don't recall SSC saying they would never finish the Fellowship in PF.

From the June 3rd Q&A:
Q: The Lord of the Rings line seems to have it’s up’s and downs. The up’s stem from the interest generated in the forums and product comments which, on the whole, are very positive about products released so far. The downside is that there are still certain quality pieces unsold which may be down to the demand for these pieces not being so great as in previous years. I feel it is this uncertainty that has resulted in the Fellowship yet to be available in any format other than in the collaboration with Weta. As you have previously stated, Hobbits in particular don’t sell very well and so shelved the remaining characters for the 12-inch figure line, leaving those who had collected the line so far searching for custom pieces to complete the Fellowship. Does Sideshow think the same with the Premium Format range in regards to Hobbits, or are you able to commit to the full Fellowship of Nine? The villains and side characters are great, but we wants the Fellowships ssssoon precioussss!

A: It is possible that the Fellowship will be completed within the Premium Format line, or perhaps more likely, within the Diorama line. Both lines are moving forward with great enthusiasm, but both lines are currently more focused on delivering strong characters/scenes from the films & statement pieces rather than perfectly complementary products.
So like us 1:6 collectors you flakes bailed out on, the lot of you PF collectors shall suffer the same doom! Have a good cry and get over it! :lol Here's the thread about it:

Not this PF collector. I couldn't care less if they complete the Fellowship in PF. As long as they keep producing cool figures like they have up until now, I'm happy.

PS. You can complete the Followship in 1/6 by buying up the Weta Statues. Well, other than Pippin of course. :monkey3 :lol

:yuck No thanks!

This is also reflected in the way we post on the forum... probably 75% of all posts about a figure occur BEFORE the figure arrives. Once the figure arrives its like "next".

The anticipation of the piece is almost more fun that the piece itself.

I'm not a 1/6 collector but have bought all the LOTR PF's up to now. I have always supported the call for a complete Fellowship in 1/6 scale and am still hopeful of a Fellowship in PF form.
I still think it smacks of misleading the collector by hinting and non confirmation of whether a line is going to be completed or not and it's only recently they have given a definate 'no' on 1/6 completion so I don't rank anyone as a 'flake' as it seems an across the range thing to not complete.

I think those that want a complete Fellowship in whatever form from SS should keep banging away and filling the Q+A section for as long as they have faith in the companies ability to please the minority (if that is what those who want the Fellowship completed are) and either put it to a proper poll as to how many want this, or be upfront as to what the particular line will include from the start and not hide behind 'product development' as they already have the license. :peace

I don't know if constantly bringing this up in SS's Q&A, or polls will have any effect in the end as these decisions by SS seem to be purely economic in nature. If SS can make an acceptable profit from completing the fellowship in PF, they will complete it. If they can't, they won't. SS is not only dealing with alot of economic uncertainty out there, but they will now have to compete with Weta for LOTR collectors hard earned dollars and I can actually see SS scaling back somewhat on all of their LOTR lines, which I don't think will bode well for fellowship PF completeists.

As for collectible companies completing lines......no company has ever completed any line that I know of, and I don't think they ever will. :(

That's where we differ. The fact is, in the beginning, the 1:6 line had full support by collectors and in the end, Sideshow couldn't even give them away. It took custom projects (Bilbo/White Wizard), achieving gift card status and clearance discounts to even get them to sell out... and we're talking the MAIN characters here! Then when they announced that the 1:6 line would be discontinued, a huge chunk of the ADD collectors had moved on and several PF collectors didn't care, which, mainly, is why the line was canceled. Now the irony that it's happening to them isn't lost on me or any of the others who were hoping for a complete Fellowship in 1:6. Yes Sideshow lagged, and in a single case, made a poor character choice (which at the time I think wasn't, but in fact, a step in broadening the line with secondary characters), but in the end, the LOTR fans just weren't there. That's flake in my book.

As for bombarding them with requests, if it didn't work for the Kurgans, what the hell makes you think it'll work for LOTR? The fact that they keep reiterating the cancellation of the 1:6 line reaffirms this repeatedly! It's time to pick up and move on.

:lecture:lecture:lecture SS won't bring back a line because the same 20 people keep emailing them to do so. :lol As for completing lines, it wasn't so much a matter of that. Most of us were okay not getting the villains, it was that they fell short by a measly 3 releases in completing just the Fellowship, the most important characters in the stories.

Nope. They will look like their rehashed wrastlers.

Which was pretty much what I was inferring with my description.

Is jakks really supposed to get the Hobbit or was that a joke?

Merely speculating on a ToyBiz equivalent. The only other option would be Hasbro, but the same description applies except that in Hasbro's case, the women will look like Rocky Horror trannys.

Having seen the lack of love from enough collectors to make a high-end 1:6 line remotely profitable (both DiD and Sideshow bailed), that license will be as unsellable as conflict diamonds.

I don't think that statement is fair at all. Unless i'm reading it wrong you're putting down the Toy biz line which I thought was awesome. Taken into account they were sold at retail and for about 5 bucks each, some figures were really nicely down, not to mention how extensive the line was. I think the only character really missing was Sams wife Rosey.

You are. I was using companies who would release figures along the same prices as ToyBiz, namely the 6" and below. And TB's 1:6 had some phenomenal pieces as well, namely their Witch King, and Gimli and Bilbo, all of which fit perfectly (sculpt-wise) in with Sideshow's figures. But again, I'm mainly talking the 6" figures. Jakks and Hasbro would be the only likely suspects (and at least Jakks uses Realscan so the faces would look nice but the bodies would suck). There's always Playmates, but their Terminator and Star Trek figures look like ass. :lol

oh okay, I agree that those companies would do a bad job, but I think the Toy biz line is great. Toy Biz isn't even around anymore right?
