I'm really excited for this piece today for some reason. I even made my desktop one of the images of PZ! Seems like such a long wait...

Venturing in since it seems to have calmed a bit...

All this talk of ping times and servers and load balancers is kind of beside the point when the edition size for something is only 100 - unfortunately, no matter how blazingly fast the servers may have worked, only 100 people would get the exclusive edition of this figure to begin with... it sold out in just under an hour, what with the struggling server issue, but if there hadn't been a server issue, it probably would have been gone in only 5 minutes and there would still be the same dissapointments. I am in no way involved in setting edition sizes, but they obviously set this one low to try to drum up some more interest in the Dead line, as there hasn't been as much chatter lately ... looks like it worked a little TOO well :sick

I understand the frustration with not being able to get on the site at all, and from what I understand it had nothing to do with your location or even really what time you hit the link... it's all just a cr@pshoot when the bottlenecking occurs, with many variables, from the speed of your internet connection to the random Sideshow server you are assigned (I believe we run at least 5 servers, maybe more). Of course, I'm not 'techy' at all so I understand way less of it than most of you guys, but it all basically comes down to the low edition size - whether you agree with the decision or not, ultimately only 100 people will be able to own this exclusive. But the regular is still really cool too! :)

I'm glad to see that most of you are getting along again - I hate it when the Freaks fight :peace

P.S. I just want to assure you all that those people claiming to have ordered more than one must have done it legitimately... ie: had their friend(s) order one, or had access to an account and credit card in someone else's name, because customer service searched all the orders and there are no dupes. If people order 2 in this manner, there is not much we can do to stop that, as they are completely separate accounts in completely separate names and addresses. :duff

Well, I've calmed down. I'm not pissed about the ES, but not being able to even get onto SS's site was very frustrating. (Well... you can tell by my posts...)

I still love SS... but these problems must be fixed.

thanks for chiming in Dusty, seriously.

I think the biggest issue is that when anyone that logged into newsletter after the first 3 minutes it was up, and hit "complete order," the site either timed out, or got stuck in limbo loading. So they didn't know whether to try and place another order (disqualifying them from having two in their cart and having to try again) or closing out browser all together, losing their place in line, and try with a new browser window. Add to that the suspicion that other people who logged in later may have been placing orders after the first group were unsuccessful, and then you have mass hysteria for such a limited figure.

I was really shocked by the 100 edition size for the exclusive. 300 would have been better as it would have been a tribute to the original edition size, yet still very limited.

Be sure to smack whoever decided to come up with the 100 instead of 300 editon size for us Dusty. And make sure someone is looking into the server issues as well!

I think there has been quite a bit of chatter on the Dead line. It's one of Sideshow's most popular lines. And interest has picked up even more now that PFs are being made. I don't really see that as a valid reason for creating an ultra-limited exclusive. I agree with others that 300 would have been more on target. And what will the ES of the regular be? If it's more than 300, then what's the point?

I certainly hope Sideshow doesn't overshoot ES of future Dead PFs. They've now kind of set themselves up for collectors expect a really low ES on pieces, especially if it's Sideshow's intent to use a low ES to maintain interest.

ES aside, I'm still more disappointed in the price. I just don't see how Sideshow can charge $280 (add shipping we are pushing $300) for a bare-bones, non-licensed product. So if we get more elaborate Dead pieces in the future, then the price will be even higher? I know that prices have been going up across the board, however, I just think this one was a bit extreme. JMHO.

It's still a great-looking piece regardless.

If I had logged in and the item had been sold out, sure I would have been disappointed, but I wouldn't have minded because thats part of the fun of getting the exclusives. It was getting the item to my cart and waiting 2 hours to load then getting booted to Google only to crash again and get on the wait list that was really annoying.

I have to agree with you here. I didn't see a lull in The Dead chatting either, nor a need to "boost interest" in the line with such a low run (which looks like it boosted more hate than love). What with 138 being available at retailers a week or so before the Ex even shipped, fellow dead heads picking up 1:6 shopping carts :)wave guilty) for a more "modern" accessory, the custom 1206 pics over the holidays, the great Left 4 Dead customs and the zombie priest, and all the hype and discussion (will there be more? will this be popular? is this displayable? etc.) over the PZ PF, did it even slow a bit?! :huh

Personally, prior to the premium format, I never owned a single Dead piece. I was eagerly awaiting the preorder for him ever since we first had glimpses of him in the calendar. However, I always only wanted the exclusive. Like another member said, without the severed arm, Patient Zero could almost look like any type of madman on the street.

That being said, I too was fully expecting an edition size on the exclusive of 300 in homage to the original release. When the product page loaded and I read and reread the edition size of only 100, I was floored. Honestly, my adrenaline had probably not pumped harder in a long time. So if you factor that into the equation, maybe the edition size was a little bit "fun" for me. But you really can't go by my feelings on this one because after 45 minutes of frustration, I finally did score one.

And I have a strong feeling that if there are subsequent Dead PF releases, I will not be ordering them. Only really wanted PZ!

:D

From what I understand this is part of the same "Originals" line as Blackbeard so it isn't a straight DEAD line. I'm sure we'll get more Zombies but if that was the case it seems like they'll be spread out.

So if we get more elaborate Dead pieces in the future, then the price will be even higher?

I think that is a given. The more elaborate, the higher the cost. I don't think the DEAD PFs will escape that unfortunately.

:lol is that what we are calling ourselves now?

But there was a fall-off of interest in the dead line! When Babysitter variant #3, then #4 and finally 805 variant #3 came out, people started losing interest fast! Many said they were dropping the line... others said they were no longer completists... almost all were disappointed in the number of variants. Go to the Sideshow site and look at The Dead figures...

...it used to be that The Dead figures sold out pretty quickly... not anymore. Isn't that waning interest???

Variants were a bad idea, especially since you don't want similar people in your zombie horde.

I'm still surprised the zombie Santa sold out since he seemed to get the most heat from collectors.

I think interest in SS is waning in general? A obvious problem, TBD. You have all these people Pre-ordering then canceling. Esp those putting their PO'ers on ebay and canceling if it dosen't sell.

So SS is probably going to go back to Pre-determined ES, like with the PZ PF EX with much smaller ES?...

OR continue with pretty large ES, due to the fact it's better to make some profit, than no profit. Like they have done with the Subjects. Not to mention Bowen and GG seem to have gone this route with near all their pieces.

Seems to me that it's the variants shying folks away from the line and not any new figure. I think collectors want original creations and not rehashes of the same figure they already have on their shelves.

And if cancellations are used as a gauge of whether a line is alive and kicking or dying, then the collectors are helping Sideshow dictate ES and the future of the line.

Add to this that after almost a week, the regular PZ PF isn't sold out. The increased interest seems to be centered primarily on the exclusive. I wonder how much the history of the original PZ on the secondary market is fueling some of that interest?
