Today is 2 years that my Dad died from cancer.

Agreed. My grandmother has it and has been fighting it for about 6 months. The doctors yesterday just gave her about 2 more weeks to live.


Sadly, her cancer is her fault. Lung cancer from years of smoking.

It all depends Josh. My Tai Chi teacher's Master died at 92 and was still able to perform challenging movements up until the last years of his life.

My grandfather died at the age of 94 in his sleep. He gave up driving just a few years before that. He lived on his own and did great.

My mother's side of the family, all her 6 sisters except one lived into their 90s and all did well. The one that died at 76 died because the doctor punctured her bowel in three places during a colonoscopy and she died of kidney failure.

I fear cancer as well. I watched my father die of it.

ETA I remember an interview Swayze did about the time Dirty Dancing came out. They interviewed a high school friend of his and were talking about Swayze taking ballet and being quite good at it. Buddy said how at first Swayze would catch grief about it, but after beating the crap out of those making fun of him they stopped. I've loved all his movies from The Outsiders and Red Dawn to Dirty Dancing and Ghost. Me being all man and all Ghost made me tear up something fierce at the end the first couple of times I seen it. Whenever the inevitable happens, he will be missed.

The toxins could go anywhere though.But cancer seems to be everywhere nowadays.(suspects from pesticides on our food to the air we breathe)

I heard of the food part, but the air?

For those that lost your parents, I really hope your getting checked every so often. These things can be often hereditary.

I thinks it's the air as well. We're basically terra-forming our planet (hows that for geeking out) and our bodies are reacting. I've been fighting cancer for 2 years but am making it work for me. Collection has exploded-hubby can't complain now-and pulling the chemo card has ushered me to the front of many a line LOL.

My uncle got stormach cancer for christmas (a few years ago) and died a few weeks later.
