I'm a movie lover and have embraced independent cinema - but Wes and Paul Thomas Anderson are so INCREDIBLY overrated that it's starting to piss me off. The hipster crowd just loves these guys and I just don't see it. I wanna scream 'THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES' at almost every one of their films.

Said the Joss Whedon fan. :monkey3

Yes, but Anderson fans are pseudo-intellectual hipster wannabes, whereas Whedon fans are not only brilliant, but were obviously ahead of their time in assessing his genius.

The first part I agree with, the second not so much. He directed Independance Day the sequel and all the ground work was already done for him. Whedon's yet to prove himself in my book but he didn't crash the ferarri yet either. At least Wes and PT go for the more obscure and dangerous source material and make it entertaining and stylistic where it would otherwise be incredibly drawn out and boring. They also have alot of heart and great character relationships that feel very real and grounded even in the sometimes ludicrous surroundings and situations. Whedon did that with Avengers but all of these guys already knew the role they were playing and had done it before. Either way all three have their share of the hipster crowd.

I wonder if he likes the other Paul Anderson? :monkey3 Nah, I get where he's coming from, but not all people who like the films are hipsters. I just like movies, and I try to adapt to them. If I watched "There will be blood", and expected a straightforward "tell me a story" type of film, I would probably hate it, as the devil's in the details, and there are things under the surface that you have to think about. The same way I'd probably hate The Avengers if I was digging for a bunch of under the surface subtexts and intellectual mumbo jumbo. That's what I love about film; it's an exploration. Sure, there are snobs and wannabe film critics out there, but there are also those willing to open their minds, and embrace things that are foreign to them.

Still nobody seen this yet?

Got the score through today from amazon.com as not available in my country for another couple of months. Not an instant epic like TWBB, maybe it's a grower.
