Got a PC question.

So I'm playing AC Unity on my PC and I'm noticing some serious heat coming out of my computer. It dawns on me that it's not the GPU but from the CPU area.

So I download SpeedFan and it tells me my CPU is over 90 degrees Celsius. Strange thing is my 4 Cores are only 40 degrees.

I then go so far as to remove the liquid cooling system from my PC to make sure the thermal paste looks good and it's OK. But as I check it I put my finger on the CPU and it's cool to the touch. I put the PC back together and turn it on and it immediately says the CPU is still 90 degrees and the Cores are 30.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Is it maybe a bad sensor?

That seems odd. Have you tried any different temperature monitoring utilities, like Core Temp? You should check and see if the temp readings are consistent with other programs.

Just tried RealTemp and it gave me the same reading. Strangely my BIOS is saying it's 90 degrees Fahrenheit not Celsius (which is around 33 degrees Celsius). Anyone heard of this before?

It's very strange that your BIOS is reading a different temperature from the other programs, not sure what's going on there. What's the ambient temperature of your motherboard, by the way?

I guess you can try flashing your BIOS to see if that corrects the problem...

What programs do you have that are reading the temps. I had a Corsair one and it was not agreeing with the ASUS Suite II so I had to uninstall Corsair program for my liquid cooler because the Asus Suite II was showing crazy temps that weren't true while the Corsair program was installed.

Thanks for the responses.

I didn't have any other programs installed when Speedfan was giving me the "wrong" numbers. I tried Everest and it wouldn't even give me temperatures. The BIOS is up to date for the motherboard too. I bought some new thermal to put on the CPU though as I guess I wasn't supposed to touch it with my finger because of oils. My system gets hot but from my tests (of literally restarting the computer after gaming to check the BIOS) it seems to be just fine. I may actually buy another fan for the hell of it to increase airflow though.

Dumb question but how do you type messages in online play with PC games? Like COD:AW for example.

It depends on the game, lots of times it's going to be something like pressing T or Y on the keyboard to bring up the chat. A game might not have the option though, if you can't figure out the control then check the keyboard mappings in the options.

Finally fixed. Christ.

So for the longest time, I've been stuck on an older AMD driver build cause each successive build would result in a crappy grainy display. 7 months later someone finally found a solution.

AMD Support and Game Forums - 14.6 drivers causing issues with hdtv as monitor (I'm mlab, to let you know) ....

I've learned a few new things: what EDID is, how to disable driver signature enforcement on windows 8.1, how to EDID override the driver for your monitor, and AMD sucks sometimes (but I knew that already).

With the new driver that was released just recently, everything works silky smooth. And display is crystal clear.

As you can see, there is no "race"...
