The main reason I use Windows is because it's inconvenient to open the door every time I wanna look outside.

Admit it! You're using a Mac because that's what your mommy bought you!

:D

My mom actually bought my first and 2nd Mac because I asked her... I bought my Compaq Presario which was my first computer and I hated it. Yeah, I was a Windows owner before I was a Mac one. Unlike some of you goofballs who only really used one of the two, I actually had a Windows machine, but it was a Mac I needed and wanted. Haven't looked back since.

P.S. I am a student thus why the help. Oh right, like your mommys haven't helped you, and if they haven't it's because they don't love you. :pfft:

If you are judging your PC experience by a Compaq computer, it's no wonder you hate them.

I don't buy a Mac because I don't have the need for one and can't justify the extra cost. I was thinking about getting a Mac laptop, but the cost is holding me back mostly. I just don't have a need for it. Plus, I've always been fine with a PC. Why go through learning a Mac?

Hey I have an iPhone. :)

BUMP!

I almost started a new thread, but didn't feel it was necessary with this thread being fairly new.

I'm getting a new laptop this weekend. I've always been an HP fan, but I'm enticed by the Mac "crowd," excluding the one known as "Eli26."

Money is not my main concern. I don't mind shelling out the extra cash for a reliable product. I've read all of the posts, but I'm still torn. (Ski, please don't kill me for saying that. :lol)

I'd like to see more opinions weigh in with this debate. Is Windows 7 really that big of an improvement over Windows Vista, in terms of security and user-friendly-ness?

I have been a PC guy forever and I bought my first Mac last summer! I will NEVER buy a PC again!!!

MACs are awesome! It did take a few weeks to get comfortable with it. If you have a Mac friend/family member it helps when you have a question to ask.

I have not had ANY problems so far and my Mac friends claim that this computer will last a long time while still performing like it is new. (time will tell)

Live a little and make the jump!!! You will love it!

Also, if you are in college or involved in education you get 10% off and a free iTouch! You can then sell your iTouch on ebay and it can help pay for your new laptop. If you are not in education... have a friend that is go with you and you can "buy them the laptop".

10% off and an iTouch?!?! Seriously?! I'm in college, so that sounds pretty enticing. Is there a link where I can read more about that offer?

Thanks for the post!! :rock

i vote Mac but i also want to throw in Linux. :D yes, it's a bit of a learning curve but i will honestly say that learning the UNIX operating system has been the single best investment i've ever made while in college. it opened up an avenue of possibilities that have brought me to where i am today. it's widely used in a lot of sectors. business, education, military, entertainment, etc..

i've been using Linux on an 8yr old, slow computer. i finally upgraded to better hardware and a newer OS but it easily could have served my purposes at work for another few years!

as for my trusty iMac.. i bought it on 03/19/09 and i have yet to reinstall the OS. ;)

Another question:

What is the difference between a Macbook and a Macbook Pro (in layman's terms)?

I just recently dropped a few grand on a new top of the line customized HP PC. I'm pretty happy with it for the most part, but there have been some issues. I'm not crazy about Windows 7, for one.
I am into video editing and am very tempted by the advantages a nice MAC PRO can offer. I'm still within my HP return policy, so I'm considering swapping the PC out for a MAC, but it seems the MAC PROS are about a year overdue for an update. For instance, the processor I have in this PC is a lightning fast eight core extreme edition, and I can't get that in the 2009 series of MACs.

Any thoughts on what I should do?

Windows 7 is really much much better. It runs better, is more reliable, the interface is better. The security system isn't annoying. And really at this point people are having things run better than they were on XP. It also helps that almost all hardware is plug and play. When I built my computer I only had to install drivers for one thing and everything else already had drivers.

More questions: Is 4GB of memory plenty fast???

And also, I found notebooks with space for "extra" memory? How much would it cost to buy an extra 4GB after market to install myself?

So far, I'm leaning towards this: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple&...inum/9910585.p?id=1218193867485&skuId=9910585

Any opinions?

Memory is basically for content, if you plan to run several programs at once, or use a program that needs a lot of data (video games) then it's good to have a lot of memory. But it won't speed up your computer unless you're actually getting to a point where the programs you are running use a lot of memory.

Thanks, Viper. I read earlier you're a PC guy. Any brands that you'd recommend? I really like HP, but I've heard good things about Toshiba as well. What's your feelings on those two?
