I would like to speculate that Vanessa is speaking to the devil himself posed as Sir Malcolm leading up to the "What in the hell do I do/my libido is so confused with yet another awkward Eva Green nude scene"

Well, that last scene wasn't gay at all :lol

I like Dorian Gray, as a character being the epitome of hedonism, I knew where that last part of the episode was going the moment they went to his house, what I don't quite understand is why? I was hoping the scene would build up to that point but it really didn't, something was missing, it was all too abstract for me maybe, as of now it looks more like he put a roofie in his drink, cause I didn't quite get that "manipulative" vibe from Dorian.

Anyway, I've yet to see a Dorian Gray that looks the part but this one is by far the best written one, when he was smelling the flowers in the greenhouse it took me right back to the book; "to cure the soul by means of the senses, and the senses by means of the soul", the way he carries himself and talks is just right, I want to see his anger though.

I've caught up with all the episodes and so far I'm loving it. The seance scene with Eva Green gave me chills.

However, the last episode disappointed me a little bit. In previous episodes when Vanessa and Sir Malcolm talked about the guilt/sin and betrayal of Mina, I assumed that during some supernatural encounter, Vanessa had basically ditched Mina when she needed her the most and that's how Mina ended up in Dracula's clutches. So I was disappointed to find out her big betrayal was
just screwing Mina's finance on the night before her wedding. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I agree with her actions. I'd be furious if my best friend did that. But it takes two to tango so 50% of the blame is on her finance's shoulders.

I liked Caliban initially as he was pretty badass but now.....good God is he an emo whiny *****. I'm actually hoping he dies soon as I'm worried they'll have him start a diary and listen to whatever the Victorian equivalent of dashboard confessional is.

I've disliked Caliban since he killed Proteus and he keeps getting more annoying each episode. He is such a whiny impatient brat!

I keep waiting for Victor to point out the glaringly obvious flaw in his plan/wish : even if Victor does make you an immortal mate, does NOT mean that she will love you.

Or shaman. Which could still imply that he's a werewolf since the shaman/medicine man in Native American lore was also a trickster or shape shifter.

Hard to say. I don't think he'd be a shaman though as I don't think very many native Americans spoke Latin if at all. Also I think if he was going to be native American, they should of cast an actor who actually was native.

I am implying that he spent time with a Native American tribe and learned their ways. He does know quite a bit about them from his time with the military. He could have been taken in by one of the tribes ala "Dances With Wolves."

True enough. He's definitely the biggest mystery in the show so far if you ask me.

That exorcism just came out of nowhere.

I think that was a red herring.

My view is that the whole shaman thing was hinted at in his very brief flashback where he was injured with the wolf standing over him.
It's also been implied with the wolves at the zoo(?) and the fact he said it was a "bad idea" to use his blood for a transfusion, that he is a werewolf.
I think the "on next weeks finale" thing at the end it shows him getting into a bar room brawl and his hand start to change so the werewolf thing seems right.

My hunch is that we're meant to think he killed the family in episode 1; but really he is tracking the werewolf that actually did.

Penny Dreadful seems a little bit rushed at the moment. Almost like they're trying to squeeze too much into just 8 episodes.
Still, roll on Sunday!!

I don't know if this was another red herring but it seemed kinda random but my ears perked up when it was mentioned. When Vanessa was talking to devil Ethan and she told him that he was the only one capable of doing it, at the height of the full moon, she wanted him to end her suffering. Almost like she knows what he is.

Agreed. They are throwing everything in, including the kitchen sink here. But this past Sunday's episode was top notch again and the finale looks promising too.

Yes what a great episode and just even more testament to Eva Green's acting ability.

Great season finale. Everyones story has really jumped up a notch with the exception of Dorian Gray. Brona and ethans outcomes were predictable although Maude as the red herring gave me a bit of a pause. IGN made a good point that pretty much everyone had figured out that Ethan was a werewolf and at this point they just wanted to see him transform already. I'm glad to see that they went wolfman instead of stupid budget wolf like other shows have done. I'm assuming he doesn't go too large as he was wearing the same clothes on him in the next scene and they weren't ripped or shredded. I'm curious if he turns into a complete animal or has some control over it. I still find it hard to sympathize with caliban and his emo awkwardness and rage kills but it was definitely interesting to see the scene with him and Victor.

I'm excited for season 2 and hoping more characters show up, especially league characters like Dr. Jekyll, quartermain, or even Nemo. I mean everyone has drawn comparisons to the two so they might as well embrace it.

Great season finale indeed. I'm glad that Ethan is now confirmed as a werewolf.

Still can't stand Caliban. I wish Victor had pulled the trigger. Tbh I'm a tad confused why Victor decided to give him a mate in the end. He was so against it. What changed his mind? Caliban's emo speech?
It was kinda predictable that Brona would be his mate tho I'm more curious to see how she or Ethan will react after her rebirth in season 2.
