Back in the 90s when I was collecting Hasbro stuff scalping was even more annoying than it is now. There was obviously the internet and ebay where you could buy anything you really had a hard time finding in stores, but typically the goal was to find something on the shelf and to do that you had to be more lucky than anything. On a few occassions I'd see a notorious scalper from the Denver area stocking up on the rarer items in his cart. It was obviously annoying to see someone get the item you wanted only because he had better luck getting there 5 minutes before you.

These days, for the most part the stuff I personally collect is available on a schedule and I know when to be there to order it. I know flippers and scalpers still end up with many of the items, but at least I feel I have a decent shot by knowing when it will be sold (occasions like Snake Eyes being the exception).

I dont care! And the so called scalpers are not the ones that set the price its everibody like you and me buying and then bidding retarded amounts for them! they just go with the flow!

How did you not know it was going up for preorder? It was previewed one week... up for sale the next... pretty much the same for 99.9% of all Sideshow items.

I don't know I guess I expected to be giving a quoted date a week a head like PPOs are.

Being that the only SSC lines I collect are SW, LOTR and now Indy (all three with PPOs) I forgot that some lines don't do it that way.

So I called in sick from work that Friday and didn't have access to a computer Fri, Sat and Sun. When I got back to work on Monday and read the newsletter I realized I missed it. :dunno.

I just got complacent with the typical PPO warnings that get sent out sooner than the day before, I guess.

Also, for whatever reason, I think I told myself that Snake Eyes was going to be a SDCC week order.

I just want a flat out "we will be selling these on XX/XX/XXXX..." and not "for sale soon" message for 3 weeks straight.

as it has been pointed out to me, i would like to share this wisdom. when you purchase something, you buy it with your money. so what you decide to do with it after is up to you. there are times when something will go up in value, and when resold a profit is made. yet there are times when the item loses value, what then? should the attitude towards the reseller be...'serves him right for buying two'? i have accepted that everything is on a first come basis, and no one will die if you don't pick up the item you wanted. so we must have mutual respect for all sellers and all buyers. this is a great hobby but my life doesn't hinder on getting an item. does yours?

Thats a good point Tylerd. In the grand scheme of things I don't think anyone I've met (even the most whiniest of them) take this hobby as life or death.

This is a toy board so we talk about toys. Its hard to speak a dissenting opinion without sounding like you're making a big deal out of it.

I often think the people who often accuse a person of making the mountain out of a mole hill are actually being more dramatic than the o.p. but thats beside the point.

Yep, gotta agree with P!tu on this one. It's our fault as lazy collectors, we missed out on an opportunity to get a figure or statue... they put it up for sale... we bid for it and pay out the nose, raising the value of the item and making it more expensive down the line....

Do people know the definition of Scalper??? Scalper For Example is somebody that raises prices like umm.. Lets say Water during Hurricane times were its a pain in the ass to find.

Resellers are just reselling Thats it they dont make up the prices the buyers do.

complete deference.

Ah! That would explain it... sorry you missed it. If you hopped on the waitlist, I pretty much guarantee you will convert.

I hate to agree with p!tu, but he is 100% right here(especially the last part).

Buyers are to blame, not sellers.

If I put something on ebay and start the bid a $1.00 is it my fault it sells for $2,000.00? No. If I put a BIN for $2,000.00 and some body buys it, is it my fault? No.

Are we supposed to celebrate capitalism everytime we have to pay 10% more than originally would have needed to?

Its just a bummer. No more, no less.

Both of you totally mistook the word "need" in that sentance.

Need in this sense meant "MSRP" which is all the original purchasers "needed" or "had" to pay and thus would have been all the second hand buyer would have "needed" or "had" to pay if direct access to the original seller.
