I'm still devastated Del Toro jumped off directing duties. I think it was an inspired choice and he wouldve created something magical. However, this has always been Jacksons baby and he's the only logical choice for director. I hope this sorry mess gets sorted soon before all the principal cast are too old to star in it!

Please let this work out. With Jackson in control, these can't be bad. With anyone else, they're almost guaranteed to be bad.

Strongly disagree with all these types of comments. It's as if there aren't any good directors out there! Well, there are and they know something of Tolkiens world too. There are elements of PJ's film-making that really get on my nerves. The slow motion, overly drawn-out close-up shots....
Del Toro would have made a stunning Hobbit movie, but i don't mind if PJ does direct, it would make sense now rather than bringing in someone completely new who hasn't been there while all the pre-production has been going on.

I hope PJ brings his A-game when he's eventually "forced" to make these. He's waffled so much on taking the helm, that even if he "can" do it, he may not have his heart in it.

There's so much drama hanging over these movies so far. If I was forced to do something I was very good at under these kind of ackward conditions, I could see where it may not be my best or preferred effort. I know PJ loves the LOTR/Hobbit, but can he make it all work under this stress and confusion?

He doesnt want to do it......he never did....:(

You two realize that from the beginning he wanted to do it, but New Line wouldn't let him do it. He wasn't allowed to direct, only to produce it.

Yeah, because of the lawsuit over profits PJ filed against New Line, the bloke in charge of the studio vowed PJ would not direct the movies, but since then he's been sacked and New Line taken over, and the people now in charge WANT PJ to do it, and the only reason PJ said he didn't want to do it is because he wasn't allowed. Or so i believe ;)

Even though Del Toro was announced and things were progressing, I kind of always felt that this is where it'd go, didn't everyone else? I just saw all the pics of the Shire built up and everything so let's hope that something can get these films moving.

The cynical bastard in me wants this to fall through just out of curiosity to see the fallout among Ringers. :thud:

I really still think he doesn't want to direct it... but maybe at this point he feels he has to? :dunno

I kind of feel like we're back during the production of the original SW films and Lynch and Spielberg are out and now its up to Kershner to direct ROTJ or it goes to Marquand. Kershner wanted a break and didn't think the saga needed him anymore but of course we know differently.

Even if Jackson directs them begrudgingly at least they won't be train wrecks, and might even be great.

Ringers aren't SW fans will handle it quite well if it does. We're not a decent portion of SW fans that act like we need to be catered too.

He may not for the reason he doesn't want to compete against himself. I can't blame him but I still want him too or to pick someone he totally trusts.

These movies will never happen. Sorry to break it to y'all.

I don't see why he wouldn't want to do it...

OH POOR ME I DON'T WANT TO SPEND 3 YEARS IN ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD, DIRECTING ONE OF THE MOST EPIC STORIES OF ALL TIME, CEMENTING MY LEGACY OF BEST FANTASY DIRECTOR OF ALL TIME, AND OH YEAH MAKING MILLIONS WHILE I AM AT IT AND PROBABLY A COUPLE MORE OF THOSE SILLY GOLD STATUES

These Hollywood types I tell ya... I'll never understand.

What does this have to do with SW or SW fans? :dunno

I'm saying that Ringers tend to be a more mature crowd and won't go too crazy acting in some ways like something was personally ripped away from them. As tends to be the case when SW fans really don't like something. If thats the type of reaction you're waiting to see.

I think the only way you see ringers go crazy is if someone truly awful gets forced on the project.
