I'm still interested in this as well. Please keep me updated when it is list time. :)

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 1/25 Pg.18 - New update

New update on progress.......I think insanity has set in. After waiting for the cash to order it and shipping time. I tried using silicone to cast the outfit. For some reason the silicone did not fully cure and the mold is now left with a thin sticky layer of silicone that I have to clean. I'm not too sure what the hell happened b.c the silicone left over in the cup cured just fine. I cannot begin to describe how infuriating it was to open the mold and see a perfectly cast outfit that was sticky and slimy so ultimately completely unusable.

In an attempt to further continue my exercise in self punishment I finally ordered a 50lb bag of Ultracal 30 to make a proper mold for the liquid latex. Ordering ultracal sucks b/c it cost more for shipping then it costs for the bag. 50lb bag is only 32 bucks but shipping on that is 40-45. so a $32 order turns into +$70 bucks. I lucked out last week though and found a local supplier so I didn't have to pay for shipping, yay!

So, new plan. Tonight i'll be cleaning out both sides of the mold. Then I am going to cast a solid resin copy of the whole thing to save as a "master copy" b/c i'm now paranoid about something happening to the mold. After the new master is cured I will be pouring a solid rubber cast to then make a Ultracal mold from. Once I have the ultracal mold I'll fill it with liquid latex and if the gods are with me I should have usable outfits finally. I was going to go with Hydrocal but after reading about the two, I learned that ultracal is more durable and suitable for multiple castings.

ANYWAY.....I'm still working on this this thing, almost everyday as of late. The lack of posting updates has been purely out of frustration. What I should have done was use ultracal from the damn beginning (shipping held me back though). Either way this has been a hell of a learning experience on molding and casting.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 1/25 Pg.18 - New update

Sorry to hear that man. Silicone can be a finicky material. Curing can be inhibited by other silicones, sulfur and latex. I would suggest going to www.smoothon.com and read about some of the different kinds. For example there are two kinds of silicone, tin cure and platinum cure. One will cure when in contact with the other but the other won't cure when its in contact with the other.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 1/25 Pg.18 - New update

Thanks guys. It's just been frustrating. I keep getting so close then something odd goes wrong and sets me back. I'm super excited that I found a local supplier of ultra cal 30. It's what I wanted to use from the start. Also, I have to mention that my wife has been unbelievably understanding and supportive of this despite the constant extra costs during all of this trial and error.

Robbie, the mold is made of rebound 25 and the silicone I used was dragonskin. Both from smooth on. I don't remember seeing anything that said it would cause it not to fully cure but maybe I missed something.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 1/25 Pg.18 - New update

Must have been something else. Both of those are platinum so they should have been fine.

The only thing else I can think of is either the ease release2000 did it or the silcpig I used to color it black. Unless there was residue from the last latex casting I did and that caused it.

lol right?!?

I finally got the mold all cleaned out. Ill be casting the resin copy next then making the rubber body for the ultra cal mold.

Hope it is not too late for me to jump on this? I'll keep an eye and when the list time comes I'll sign up pending the pictures! Sounds really sweet to the possiblity of adding Pinhead to my horror collection!

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 1/25 Pg.18 - New update

A small update for the progress on the outfit.

I ordered some flexible resin to make another solid casting of the outfit. I was worried about the current one getting "locked" into the ultracal mold and considering all the awesome luck I've been having with the outfit, I thought I'd try to plan ahead. So, tonight or tomorrow (time permitting) I am going to cast up a solid flexible version of the outfit to use for the ultracal mold. This stuff sets up pretty quickly and if all goes well I should be able to cast up the first real outfit this weekend.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 3/14 Pg.20 - Light at the end of the tunnel

Hi All,

another quick update. I made some great progress this past week with the outfit. It took a little trial and error but I have a great solid flexible cast now of the outfit. This weekend I will be cleaning up the cast (fixing some small seams and such) then pouring the final ultracal mold.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 3/14 Pg.20 - Light at the end of the tunnel

Checking in...how's it going so far working on the Pinhead clothes and weapons?

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 3/14 Pg.20 - Light at the end of the tunnel

quick update here.

I am working on getting the ultracal mold setup for the final casting of the outfit. I ran into a problem while patching the rubber cast. Basically not much will stick to cured rubber. I tried patching with liquid latex and wax. I even tried melting the rubber at the spots that need patching as suggested on another site. The issue was that the patched spots keep pulling away when building up the new mold. So last night I ordered some pros aide. It's an adhesive that is used in FX to seem and patch latex and rubber masks. It should be here in a day or two then I can repatch the spots on the rubber cast and get it molded. This is basically the last step. Once I have the ultracal mold I will be able to make the outfit ready. The weapons are done too. I need to mold them but they are ready to be molded.

So fingers crossed on the pros aide and hopefully this weekend I will be able to get the first cast pulled.

Mark
