Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 1/25 Pg.18 - New update
New update on progress.......I think insanity has set in. After waiting for the cash to order it and shipping time. I tried using silicone to cast the outfit. For some reason the silicone did not fully cure and the mold is now left with a thin sticky layer of silicone that I have to clean. I'm not too sure what the hell happened b.c the silicone left over in the cup cured just fine. I cannot begin to describe how infuriating it was to open the mold and see a perfectly cast outfit that was sticky and slimy so ultimately completely unusable.
In an attempt to further continue my exercise in self punishment I finally ordered a 50lb bag of Ultracal 30 to make a proper mold for the liquid latex. Ordering ultracal sucks b/c it cost more for shipping then it costs for the bag. 50lb bag is only 32 bucks but shipping on that is 40-45. so a $32 order turns into +$70 bucks. I lucked out last week though and found a local supplier so I didn't have to pay for shipping, yay!
So, new plan. Tonight i'll be cleaning out both sides of the mold. Then I am going to cast a solid resin copy of the whole thing to save as a "master copy" b/c i'm now paranoid about something happening to the mold. After the new master is cured I will be pouring a solid rubber cast to then make a Ultracal mold from. Once I have the ultracal mold I'll fill it with liquid latex and if the gods are with me I should have usable outfits finally. I was going to go with Hydrocal but after reading about the two, I learned that ultracal is more durable and suitable for multiple castings.
ANYWAY.....I'm still working on this this thing, almost everyday as of late. The lack of posting updates has been purely out of frustration. What I should have done was use ultracal from the damn beginning (shipping held me back though). Either way this has been a hell of a learning experience on molding and casting.
