Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 2/10/2013 Pg.8 Outfit Molding in Progress

Thanks all, I've got a few thick layers of rubber mold on it now and will be starting the support shell tonight.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 2/10/2013 Pg.8 Outfit Molding in Progress

Looking good man, are you planning to cast the suit over the body or make it a slip over?

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 2/10/2013 Pg.8 Outfit Molding in Progress

Thanks guys!

Gary - The suit will have an opening going half way down the back allowing the legs to be put through then pulled up and onto the figures body. The opening will be covered by the middle piece that runs down the back of the outfit (not currently shown in the pic of the sculpt).

Here is a pic of the first side of the support shell. Next side will go on in a few hours after this full cures.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 2/18/2013 Pg.10 2nd support shell is on

i still don't know this part in the process but i am excited to see the first replica of your suit...:)

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 2/18/2013 Pg.10 2nd support shell is on

lol, I just got this question a few minutes ago too.

A quick run down is the rubber mold was brushed on and when I remove the sculpt the rubber mold will be very flexible and not hold it's shape. So, I'll hold the rubber mold in it's shape then put this "fiberglass like" shell back on. Wrap a few rubber bands around it and some clamps then it will be ready for casting. If I pour the rubber latex in the mold without the support shell it will bend out of form and not hold the right shape.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 2/18/2013 Pg.10 2nd support shell is on

This is gonna rule - I'm totally in for it.

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 2/18/2013 Pg.10 2nd support shell is on

Re: Pinhead Project - UPDATE 6/24 page 7 Outfit new pics

Well, let's file that under "stuff I didn't think about" lol. Thanks for the mini heart attack :panic: ;)

This is the latex I have picked out for casting the outfit.

https://www.monstermakers.com/product/Mask-Latex-for-Black-Masks.html

They recommend using a latex base paint like this
https://www.monstermakers.com/product/latex-paint-base.html

You could then paint over the base paint or use their latex mask paint, then seal it. They also have two different gloss sealers on their site as well at the following link.

https://www.monstermakers.com/category/special-effects-clear-flexible-high-gloss-coatings.html/

I'm not "married" to this product. If anyone has experience with another material they would recommend I'd be interested to hear about it!

This looks like a great project. Way back when I used to make and paint latex masks, I used to buy liquid latex carpet adhesive which I used to water down and mix with my acrylic paint. This created a rubberized paint that I could airbrush and the adhesive in the latex helped it to stick to the mask. The paint could actually stretch with the mask and it worked very well. Just thought it was worth a mention.
