I'm pretty sure it said in 2D in select theaters on the trailer. I was a bit annoyed by that myself because I would often just as soon see the 2D and save a bit of money than the 3D.

The trailer says "Coming Soon In Select Cinemas Disney Digital 3D".

Seems to me like the 3D will be the less common way to see it.

She is what we call "Dress her up" hot. Meaning that after some stylists and make up artists get a hold of her she can look very attractive but as a whole it just isn't there.

She 'cleans up nice'.

Also, Jack's character was butchered, IMO. He became a silly coward for comedy relief.

Aw. He was always a clown, but he was never someone you couldn't take seriously (fail to take Jack Sparrow seriously at your own risk. :lecture) He always had a straight face under the smirk, and he was always capable of infinitely more than anyone underestimated him for.

Plus, he drove the plot from one end of the trilogy to the other. Elizabeth had her moment in AWE, but she wasn't the prime mover. I think it's one of the most sterling examples of the zannis being what makes the world go 'round in modern cinema. You can't do that when you're just a joke.

This new trailer.....actually doesn't look too awful. It could go either way for me, depending on the story and how they write Jack.

He was awfully funny. :monkey1

This looks great. I didn't want any more, but now I want three.

I must have mis-read or misheard it, or I got it confused with another trailer. Maybe it was Thor.

I don't mind funny; he was funny in the first one. But it didn't come at the expense of the character - in the sequels, it did. It's all about the writing. The first movie balanced the quirkiness of the character, while still keeping an intelligent edge to him. That takes good writing. The sequels lacked in writing, like they did in everything else. IMO.

For the record, I don't think Jack is the only character the sequels screwed up. Will Turner was the only consistent character.

While it may be some of the writing behind Jack's evolution, Johnny seems very invested in the charater and his portrayal, Depp himself may be making some of the decisions.

I have a feeling at this point they probably just say "Go Johnny" and record whatever he does. The same has actually been documented from Eddie Murphy to Jim Carrey to Robert Downey Jr. to Robert DeNiro so I'm sure the same respect comes to him. Normally with this kind of improv, the actor records takes differently purposefully allowing the production team to choose whichever best fits so some of the fault of the "uncharacteristic" feel from the first to the third for example is the fault of whomever is in the editing room.

I think he was the only static character. Jack and Elizabeth and Barbossa all evolved. Will's full complex of motives was set in the first film (almost all in his first appearance) and never changed to the end.

And I still thought Jack was better for his clowning all the way through. His intelligence got a lot more abstract and his control on most situations became less obvious as it progressed. And, he got funnier. Just shows how clever the man really was.

I agree, Jack was pretty much playing every body in the third movie. He knew what everyone was really after and how to get them to do what he wanted. Sure he was taken offguard a couple fo times, but he rearranged his strategy and made do with it.

For me, Jack Sparrow is Jack Sparrow, I've never seen him as a different person over the movies. The only differences I spot are the additional wounds and trinkets he gains. I guess it's because I took more to the silly side of him in Curse, I see the comments about him being more serious and intelligent, I don't get it, like I said, I see the same guy in each movie, maybe more or less of certain traits, but not a different person.

Not a different person, but his ambitions got exponentially grander as the films progressed, and he grew to meet them. I think his wits were as able in the first as the third, but in the first, he had no need to call upon them to the extent he did in the third.

I think the experience of Captain Jack Sparrow gained depth. The depth was always there, just fully not revealed until the end.

Will, not so much.

That's basically what I was driving at, he grows with time as anyone will, but to me, I don't watch DMC and think, that's not the same Jack as Curse, if I thought he'd changed I probably wouldn't have liked the sequels, Jack is why I got into Pirates, they're great movies but it was Depp's portrayal that stood out most with me and I walked into my first viewing of DMC eager to get more, and I got what I wanted.

I've said all along, as long as Depp is back as Sparrow, I'm game for any POTC movies.
