So because this is a Planet Hulk piece everyone here all of the sudden doesn't like to have something collectible? What? no "grail" talk? no "I got my order in on time, ^^^^^^es!" bragging?

Come on guys. Be consistent.

I do agree that there is a bunch of posers who never heard of Planet Hulk before they saw this. They are not as much the problem as it's Sideshow's for opening this ES up with no regards to protecting the collectible value. 900 ES Exclusive is just irresponsible managing for this piece. The exclusive item is not that crucial that EVERYONE must have it.

should have been 500 tops. 900 should be for reg editions. Sideshow is getting hungry for the $$$$$$$

Don't get me worng. I knew the ES would be high at 500 to 650 tops. Not 900 ES. What "concerns me" (and I use the term loosely since the collectibility factor is out the window lately) is that Sideshow really buys into the artificial hype.

Planet Hulk was a popular story in the comics world. There is a lot of buzz now that people have seen the sculpt, they want to learn about the story because of the sculpt, etc. How many of these folks will still care when the 15-20 day shipping notices get sent out? How many want a statue of Hulk and the Surfer in gladiator outfits? How many truly connect to this scene from Planet Hulk enough to keep their orders?

That's where I feel Sideshow is loosing touch. They are still the best company all around, but some of the choices to maximize profits are a bit questionable.

I agree with you.
Nice comment

yeah, maybe ss wants to become the next bowen, pump out as much stuff as possible flood the market, make 10 different variants of each statue and character, and maybe just maybe have 1 out of 10 collectables will actually appreciate in value, instead of 8-9 out of 10 which they are doing now.

now in saying that, i am in no way cancelling mine, but also how does a collector feel when their prized new collectable can be had on secondary market for hundreds less than what he just paid for it from the original supplier?? (case in point the THING, way over produced and can be had on the bay for $125-$150:mad: really makes all of us that paid $350 look kinda stupid) i predict this statue will be available for second chance for quite a long time and be give away as door prizes for the next 10-20 special events, like blade/dracula is now.

your post above just made me think about what sideshows plans are for their product lines, on one hand they do a very limited run of wolfman/dracula:confused:, which created virtually no buzz factor at all, then they announce a flooding of the market with a very popular figure, as the hulk???? what, just to grab some extra $$$$, when we all know that 1/2 of them will get cancelled??? i don't care about the larger than life es, but on the other hand, who ever is setting these super hard:google, and highly complex:lol es's needs to step back and look at what the hell they're doing, cause in the long run this one is going to cost ss money instead of making it.

just like what you said in your post above:

Sideshow is in business to make money period. Who's going to pay for all the sculptors? all the employees? etc? They don't come free :)

It's nice to see them selling out because we know that they'll still be around to provide us more statues in the future for a much longer time. I would hate to see them file for bankruptcy and go out of business.

Yeah, the ES is high, but I'll be keeping my statue. Oh well...life moves on even if the value of it goes to $200 on eBay.

I have a feeling that Sideshow was collecting all the orders they can for a 24 hour period and then closed it down to determine the ES on this one. If Sideshow had a cancellation fee on all orders, then this ES would have been a much smaller number in a 24 hour window.

I just keep going back to the site and bringing up the pictures-- it's a beautiful piece and I can't wait to have it for my collection.

i totally agree that every company out there need to make money, but in saying that, how does a company justify over selling an item to everyone under the sun (without anyone having to pay some sort of deposit) then everyone can turn around and cancel at anytime without having to pay any sort of restocking charge, that practise along is costing ss alot of $$$ in a number of areas.

1. extra admin costs and paper work tracking all the cancellations (though it is more computerized, it would have to be maintained some how)

2. all the storage space required for the high percentage of cancelled items that will collect dust for sometime.

3. the extra labour required in the marketing department to try and figure out how to get rid of all this extra stock.

4. all the extra transportation costs related to hauling this statues around from one show to another, trying to get rid of all the extra stock

5. the added discounts added on during all of their special events, either in price discounts or shipping discounts

6. the free give aways, which usually come with old/over stocked items

7. and lastly, especially in todays economic climate, the accumulated interest associated with all this stock sitting not making any money.

i know that sideshow will still make money even if less than half of these statues never sell, since i know first hand how much product costs from china, there is huge profit potential in anything coming from that area of manufacturing. but just like in the last few posting i'll just end in saying this

Bravo!! Well said. :D

Personally I could give a hoot about the edition size.

Hell, let everyone buy one. I enjoy the pieces for what they are- a great piece of art in a subject and medium I really enjoy.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...

edition size is too big :monkey2

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...

flippers suck :monkey2

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...

boo-^^^^ing-hoo.

if you bought it for the ES, you suck and you'r S.O.L. if you planned on flipping it.

if you bought it because you actually like the piece, good for you.

i feel the same way. i buy them because they look amazing - not because they are limited and i can make money off of it.

I picked up the Planet Hulk trade a couple of days ago just because the dio impressed me so much. I'm about 2-3 issues in. Its entertaining but even for a comic it seems to jump from scene to scene extremely quickly. I'll see how it ends but right now the story isn't blowing me away so much that I'll take a risk on $325 statue that could conceivably *drop* in value. 900 is way too much for such a brief look for the Hulk. The statue is great and the story is fun too but the ES is definitely a bit of a buzz kill. I wasn't expecting 50 or 100 but 500-600 really should have been the cap.

Personally, I enjoyed Annihilation more than Planet Hulk. The story was longer and more epic as it took into account most of marvel's cosmic characters. Even the sequel (Annihilation: Conquest) was better in relation to World War Hulk. I could see a series of dioramas based on Annihilation since the source material is stronger.

Planet Hulk is a good story, but part of the reason why it's considered so good (in my opinion) is because there hasn't been many good Hulk stories lately. I would say probably since the Peter David days. I don't know if the strenght of the story alone (coming after seeing the diorama) will make 900 people keep their orders.

We'll see.
