Digital Light Processing (DLP)

Technology developed by Texas Instruments that is based on a digital micromirror device (a chip with millions of microscopic, hinged mirrors). Red, green and blue light is filtered through a color wheel and directed alternately onto the DMD, which switches on and off up to 5,000 times a second. The reflected light is directed through a lens and onto a screen, creating the image. High end HDTV projectors use three DMDs and forgo the color wheel--each DMD corresponds to a separate color (red, green and blue).

I paid $2300 for a 61" and I poop my pants every time I watch a movie on it.

(The couch is really starting to stink but it's worth it.)

I have a DLP and I like it very much. Plus it was cheap. :wacky

I would go with Plasma if price is no object. Although it's susceptible to burn-in, get the extended warranty and in 4-5 years you'll need/want a new TV anyway. Plasma's have better black levels and LCD can have ghost images.

Keep in mind that's just what I've heard, I'm no expert by any means.

That being said, I'm very curious as to who farted?

I got a 37" LCD and its great. I heard that plasma is better for big screens but LCD is better for the 45" and under... not sure if thats totaly true or not.

A good DLP front projector is the way to go. The only major con I can think of is that the bulb burns out after so many hours, and it costs about 300-400 to replace.

Bodie, take a minute ro read this:

Yes, but several bulbs in, you have still spent a lot less than if you had dropped $5000 on a plasma!!

Bodie, you should either get this:

These are beautiful TV's and when I get ready to buy one, it will be one of these. LCD all the way for me!

This was a problem that I wrestled with at the beginning of the year after my brother purchased a Pioneer 42" Plasma. He hooked up his TV to a HD box through Comcast and the picture was breathtaking. We were watching American Chopper in HD and I made a decision that I definately needed to pick up a new television. I felt like my Sony 32" Trinitron was obsolete after seeing my bro's new TV.

So I did some investigating and price comparing between the 3 (DLP, Plasma, & LCD) and I ultimately chose LCD. I managed to pickup a 50" Sony LCD (with stand) at a fair price at the time ($1700). I hooked it up through my own cable provider (Cox Communications) for HD and the rest was history.

I really enjoy my LCD but like anybody will tell you...it's more of a preference thing. My advice is to do some research...there are some really good buys out there (whether it's DLP, Plasma, and LCD) and I've seen prices dropping on alot of the older models to make way for newer ones. I helped a buddy of mine pick up a 61" Sony LCD (with stand) on sale a few weeks back for around $1400 and it's every bit as good as the model that I bought early last year.

Those are very nice.. I have a lil over 1800 in gift money I was thinking of dropping on a TV..

My TV is about 8 years old and has a horrible Buzzing sound.

Dont really want to spend anything extra over the gifted amount..
