Usually Consoles gets better optimization because you can't blame anything else other than developers if the game doesn't run properly on fix spec consoles, on PC there's many things you can blame.

However PC gamers upgrade their cards just so they can max out or get better FPS than 30, they can stick with the old cards and still play at the detail levels of consoles.

I'm not sure about PS4, but PS3 & Xbox360 seems to be running on "Normal" setting equivalent to PC, with much lower resolution, and capped to usually 30FPS, with no vsync.

When i look at Console based COD MW3 on PC, you can tell how they mask the low resolution models with other things like Lights & Dust particles.

Let's just hope that PS4 can really close the gap between consoles & existing PC. If not they really should also branch out and develop games that are less graphic hungry but fun like those PSN games & Nintendo games. But i guess people who buy PS4 & XboxOne over Wii-U probably expecting some eye dropping visuals over the PS3.

Naughty Dog doesn't have an special algorithm, it's all about testing with the console and optimization. If BF4 were first designed for consoles and then moved to PC you would need a graphics card that's higher than the equivalent console GPU to run it at the same level since things aren't as optimized for PC. Otherwise, PC owners would have been able to stop upgrading their graphics card years ago.

There are certain tricks they use, like for instance in The Last of Us the PS3 doesn't have much memory but it has a very good processor so the lighting is fully dynamic and isn't baked because lightmaps take up too much memory.

But again, if you took a game that's on consoles and PC's and played it on a PC with the same hardware as a console it wouldn't play as well. Even if it were using the same settings.

What that means is that the upcoming consoles should look better than what people think, as far as comparisons that people are doing with PC hardware.
My one concern is that they might lower the render resolution to increase framerate or graphics quality. I don't think there's an excuse to have games running less than 1080p at this point. I don't want them to run at 720p.

If they plan to have their games running at 60fps at least, it would be difficult to render the games in 1080p, unless they tone down all the details. But the most power hungry stuffs other than those similar to physx by Nvidia would be those Anti-Aliasings, I doubt they can have much breakthrough implementing them, and Super Sampling is pretty much impossible for a 60fps target. And we can also forget about vsync since it usually takes half the fps away which was annoying on current gen esp 3rd person games. Running games on 1080p is quite easy, but running it will all the details at 60fps is unrealistic. They should just target 30fps which is acceptable.

BF4 on PC for me then.

Edit: I see this was brought up on the previous page..

As long as I have 64 players I would be content with just a slight improvement in graphics with BF4.

The gameplay is more important.

Gameplay is better with mouse + keyboard. IMHO. I wonder, will it be possible to connect a mouse and keyboard to the PS4? I think it was possible with the PS3.

I used to be heavy into first person shooter PC gaming when I was younger (Quake, Unreal, Counter Strike, Half Like, Team Fortress).

Now, have zero interest, content with consoles.

What changed? You can play on a PC the same way you can on a console these days. You can even use a 360 controller if you want.

I'm glad to hear the DS4 is feeling good. That's about my only real concern with the PS4, but I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Got tired of the almost mandatory processor, videocard and memory upgrades plus booting up windows to game.

I quite enjoy the big EASY button now at my very relaxed age. :lol

If you're going to use a controller, might as well use a console.

Games optomized for consoles look good enough for me.

Have fun kids, just stay off my damn console lawn.

Ok, I guess. I think you know why some people play on PC. I'm a fan of options, so I game on both console and PC, but I get why some choose to stick to one or the other.

Oh boy do I get it.

With the Mouse/Keyboard I was a beast, I loved gaming at the local lan party circuits, fun stuff, I could shoot your eyeball out from across the map, any map, any FPS game.

But carrying around that monster cooled lit up like a christmas tree tower got old fast.

I traded that in for a family.

Consoles for me used to be for Japanese shooters, fighting and adventure games only.

FPS on consoles were a joke.

Not anymore that's for certain, highly competitive now.

Players with controllers can now get head shots across the map, my nephew does really well, he should, he's got his uncle's blood.

Consoles kick serious *** today.

PC bore me now, go away, leave me in peace, Tablets took on that role for me.

I've never had interest in pc gaming. I grew up on consoles starting with the original Nintendo and went from there. I can't explain it really but I just find pc gaming to be non interesting. Plus you always have to upgrade and that is a giant waste of money IMO. I admit I do get tired of seeing of gamers on this board coming into threads and telling us how ****ty console gaming is. It get annoying and that doesn't help but turn me off pc gaming.

I get that you like consoles..I like them too, but I just dont understand why that means you have to hate on PCs. How is a PC "boring" when it's doing everything a console does? I suppose this is a pointless conversation, but I'm just trying to understand. I have a feeling I'm not going to get an answer though, so no biggie. Hate away and I'll leave you in peace.

I grew up on NES and other consoles too, but I like both. Is that so bad? If you don't like PCs, that's your choice, but I don't understand the negative vibe that shows up on this board any time someone starts talking about the advantages of PC gaming. Yeah, some members are occasionally obnoxious about their PC love, but that's just the vocal minority.

That was for you.

At the end of the day, a Console is a PC.

Just a weaker one, one day there won't be enough of a difference to matter or be worth discussing in a forum.

As it is now you can even surf the net on consoles now.

A Console has the same guts as a PC, you just can't mess with it.

Now if I could only shoot with a controller like I could with a Mouse. :lol

But my skills are good enough for me at this stage of my life.

Honestly though, PC discussions don't bug me personaly.

Now STFU about PCs. :lol
