Funnily enough I think Qui-gon was the best thing to come out of the prequels - even though his character was completely and utterly unnecessary and even damaging to the overall story since his inclusion delayed Obi-wan and Anakin having any notable interraction till the second film.

But I did actually like his character and Liam Neeson in the role.

Yeah.

In fact, that was the ONLY part of the reviews that I disliked, where Plinkett rips on Qui-Gon. :lol

I'm a big fan of Liam Neeson and Qui-Gon Jinn always seemed cool to me. Looking back, I sometimes wonder if the character of Qui-Gon knew what would happen with Anakin all along. Maybe he wanted them all to die (Sith included, for the "lolz"). :wink1: He didn't seem to be to fond of the Jedi and that ____ty council very much did he? Perhaps he saw where the prequels were headed and decided he was better off dead.

A rouge Jedi who did his own thing, I like it.

The prequels are ____ and TPM is a bad film, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, I've got a soft spot for The Phantom Menace. The film isn't too great, but there are some things I still nostalgia hard for. It's the only time I like the prequel Obi-Wan, I obviously enjoy Qui-Gon and I love that duel at the end with Maul.

Parred with the fact that it doesn't ruin ANYTHING from the Original Trilogy (except maybe having a little annoying Anakin) and I can dig it.

Myself, I think it's too short to waste on making up stuff to try to make a perfectly enjoyable movie seem stupid, but hey that's just me... :dunno

I've got news for you.....

Those movies need nothing "made up" to make them look stupid :lol

Please tell me you're joking, right. :lol

Right :lol

The swinging chimps scene from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would've fit perfectly on the planet of Naboo, Jar Jar swinging trying to catch up with the Jedi's or vice versa, QuiGon and ObiWan would be the ones swinging around.

Or a large scale Jedi battle vs swinging Trade Federation Chimps.

Crap, too bad Lucas didn't add that, would've perfectly fit in with the rest of the nonsence.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatt?????????? My mind is just...wow. I cannot believe you said that.

Not at all, TPM and the other prequels are perfectly enjoyable, fun movies to watch, despite what all the haters have to say about them.
The fact that a very vocal minority doesn't like them doesn't change that.
I think you guys take this stuff too seriously and fail to just enjoy them because of some misguided expectations.
I see a lot of interesting ideas and themes in all six movies, as a lot of people do. I don't think of any of the six movies as terribly clever or artistic, some are better, some are worse, but they're all basically funs movies for the family.
And what astounds me is how because two movies were groundbreaking 30-odd years ago, because of a very different mind-set that elevated them beyond what they actually were, a (again) very vocal minority feels they have to über-analuze and dissect the newer films beyond any logic.
I'm fine if you guys don't like the prequels, what I find a bit bizarre is the need you feel to insult anything and anyone that has something to do with these films or enjoys them.
I don't like Titanic, and I feel Avatar is a pretty mediocre story. I find T1 a superior story to T2, and I feel the Transformers movies are pretty basic and don't make a lot of sense to me. Yet I enjoy most of those movies. I'm a big fan of Star Trek TOS, and I loved Abrahams' movie. But I don't jump down everyone's throat when they enjoy or dislike one movie or the other. I point out why I like something, or why I don't like something.
But with you OT purists there is no way to have an intelligent discussion, because it always comes down to "you like the PT=you're stupid", and that's a pretty childish way of resolving differences of opinion.

I posted a link to a very interesting rebuttal of your beloved critique, yet not one of the OT purists took the time to give it a read and make up their own minds. It's just easier to accept whatever RLM says, even though a lot of what he says is plain wrong, made up or stupid. It's just easier to jump on the PT is bad bandwagon and not have to actually be critical of what you're being told.
Again, it's perfectly fine if you don't like the damn movies, but it's silly to accept the misguided rantings of someone else without even really thinking about what the man is actually saying.

Why exactly CP?
You don't think the movie is enjoyable? Fine, that's perfectly alright.
Or is it that you don't think RLM made stuff up? Then let's talk about that...

Psst.....hey....psst......over here....:wave

Hey...didn't anyone tell you yet.....:lecture

The PT is equivalent to PooPoo :exactly:

There are even kids under 12 that never watched RLM who hate the PT.....so even being a kid doesn't stop them from knowing the difference between crap and quality.

But that's ok....no one is stopping you from enjoying them....so do enjoy.....

:wave

Here is another point he made that made no sense

To paraphrase Redletter he said something like, Why did the Jedi wear robes in the prequels, as Ben Kenobi only wore one because he lived on a sand planet?

Errr! Obi Wan was still wearing it on the Death Star.
Plus Luke wore one, and so did Yoda (a tatty one). Even the Emperor wore one, so the Sith liked Robes too.

What year was it that 300 received it's Academy award for best movie ever made?

The year inbetween when Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Dark Knight won for Best Movies :wave

Or was that Driving Ms. Daisy and Terms of Endearment :wave

So based on your theory, because 300 didn't win a Best Picture Oscar, the PT must be good movies.

Wait.....

:lol

And where did I say or even mention anything about 300 and that it was an excellent movie anyways?

Ohh..my Avatar and Sig?

Just because I like the HT 300 figure doesn't mean I believe that 300 is worthy of an oscar.

So when was the last time you watched Chariots of Fire....huh?

It won an oscar....how come you don't own a Chariots of Fire action figure :lol

Wait...maybe you do :lol

I was being sarcastic.
It was to point out that a lot of people think that 300 is ____ too, but you would disagree with them. Is it then there place to judge you based on what movie you like or dislike. I won't do the wave

You don't think the movie is enjoyable? Fine, that's perfectly alright.
Or is it that you don't think RLM made stuff up? Then let's talk about that...

He made nothing up. Nothing. He even showed footage, of Lucus acting like it was his first time directing a film. Now, one could say "Hey, he probably used all that out of context, and "fabricated" clips to create a lie using cleaver editing..."

I watched that making of. And I can say it did not. Lucas makes horrible, amatur decisions. He sits on his ass, and calls action (sometimes he forgets...his words) and cut (forgets as well), shoots two reverse angles, and calls it a day. Where's the style? The flair? Where does the creativity come in? RLM goes into detail about this, and after that little bit, I was so disgusted with Lucas, I actually made it my civil duty as someone who wants to make films, not to ever look up to this man.

When you see footage of Lucas talking to the actors, you dont see someone who wants to grab a good proformence, you see someone who wants to film two objects in a room, and then fill that frame with more objects. I mean hell, they could've filmed this entire movie in New Jersy in some ally....but if they had the characters and profromences down, ____....you could've felt something for these characters.

I remember being 12, seeing ROTS opening day. Sure I loved it, but I remember how disjointed the opening sequence felt. I still enjoyed it, but RLM made a great point. I mean, ROTS, you start of with an intense battle scene, followed by goofy R2 comedy, back to intense battle, back to goofy comedy, and then to cutting off a person's arms, and head...and then back to goofy comedy. What?

That's like if in Seven, after Brad Pitt opens the box, Morgan Freeman looks into the camera and goes "Well, now, she'll never get ahead in life..."

And It wasnt just ROTS. TPM did it too...the Editors even acknowlages he did this. They go from goofy Jar Jar, to goofy Anakin, to intense saber fight, back to goofy Jar Jar/Anakin, to Qui Gon's death, BACK TO GOOFY JAR JAR AND ANAKIN.

And if you continue to watch the documentary, you can see the editors getting frustrated with Lucas' tinkering with the proformences. He's able to change what an actor does with the click of the mouse. The editors do it, and then look at the camera, with this look of "What the ____ am I doing"? And even discuss their distain with what he's doing, without outright saying it. But you can feel it.

That's not how you make a movie. It's not about YOU. It's about EVERYONE. It's a collaborative process. That's what makes movies work.

That's why these films are terrible. Because a man with a huge ego, and intent to make too much money is running the show.

By the way, I'm so very aware that Hollywood is a business and pretty much exists to make money...however, you dont go into a project going "____....this is pointless if we dont make bank." Which Lucas outright says. "We'll never beat Titanic...."

WHO CARES! Make a great movie, and you just ____ing might!

I was being sarcastic.
It was to point out that a lot of people think that 300 is ____ too, but you would disagree with them. Is it then there place to judge you based on what movie you like or dislike

300's only reason for existing was to show badasses killing people in violent ways, with a comic booky backdrop. And it did it's job.

The PT's job was to tell a good story. And it failed.

Well, that's because they wanted something else. Which makes them ignorant. The film is the book with more substance.

You cant really say the people who didnt like the PT were ignorant because they had nothing to base their judgements on, other then the orignal trilogy.

There IS a good reason why the PT is very much disliked. Just like there is a very good reason why Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is disliked. And I actually dig that movie.

I think it's perfectly fine to dislike the prequels. I also see why some disliked it. No Han Solo type character might be one of the reasons, Lucas also mishandled the love scenes too, but I still enjoyed it. It's the I am right you are wrong attitude on both sides that I don't like. That is not aimed at you by the way

It doesn't matter to me when someone is critical of a movie that I enjoy, why would I care :dunno....it's not like I made the damn movie :lol

But I take great comfort knowing that I can still watch the OT and make believe that the PT never even existed. :lol

Well, except when the new Anakin pops up at the end of the ROTJ...and Greedo shooting first :slap:gah::slap

Ah I like the PT, OT, and the CW. That gives me the funnest and fullest SW experience. If someone thinks less of me as a fan then thats fine I don't give a ____. :lol
