Since the DC lines big ES #'s and all the TBD on other lines. And the fact SS has been Flooded with returns this last year because of shoddy QC problems.Possibly SS has bitten off more than it can chew.

Big #'s also mean more opportunity for crummy work to be done.SS Statues are made in China. There are People in China right now trying to get the Eyes right not only on PI but the Thousands of other SS Figures to be released first quarter of next year.

So we can only hope for the best.Or return it.

If there is no point, then they wouldn't do it:huh

For production purposes, you always get volume discounts. If they can get a better margin by producing more statues, especially on globally recognized characters like Bats, then it's a good move. The only people complaining are "hardcore" collectors, and SS is making them for mainstream consumers. People seem to have this illusion that there is some loyalty oath from SS.:cuckoo:

Well, let's face facts. If ES means nothing to SSC then why not release ALL their pieces with an open ES. That would maximize SSC's profits because then they would be able to control inventory, produce based on demand, and eliminate the aftermarket all together. All of us would be able to purchase any product we wanted, whenever we wanted. Nothing would ever sell out. Clearly, this would be in SSC's best interest. Yet, it hasn't happened. Why? Maybe they understand that their company was built on rare collectibles.

For the record, hard core customers are consumers as well. They spend money on SSC merch. Much more so than a casual consumer. SSC is trying to implement a new business strategy. More power to them. Not all new business strategies work. Whether this does or doesn't, remains to be seen.

Yeah, but that's a QA concern. That doesn't matter if there's 200 or 2,000 if they can't get it right. Although I think they would scrutinize the larger runs more carefully.

:exactly:

The ss consumer is the hard core collector. That can't lose focus on that

Sure, they're not selling iPhones. But anything produced on a batch run will have a limited run because it's fiscally impossible to run infinitely. But you're just being dramatic.

So? SS still gives "hardcore" customers first shot at exclusives, bonus points, payment plans and other perks. Putting out higher numbers of a lucrative license with higher demand to a wider market just makes sense.

it would probably be easier to break the run into smaller batches to check QC

Maybe, but then people will complain about what run their product was in, like a second print or something lol.

That's assuming higher demand and a wider market. My personal demand has fallen significantly with the new price points and higher es, especially on the limited edition products like hulk and sauron.

Hulk and Sauron are cool, but they aren't Batman cool.

How am I being dramatic when open ES exists for some of their pieces already? Some of their product has been open for 5+ years and counting.

Perks are available to ANYONE who opens an account with SSC. You do not need to be a hard core collector to receive the perks you mentioned above. Again, SSC will implement the business strategy that they think works best for them. All companies do. Even the ones that fail. That is not to say that this will happen to SSC. It's just a fact. I'm more than a little curious to see how this decision works out.

I have ivy and shak ti and bats on preorder. Bats is paid in full on rewards points cuz I don't want to spend 400. Iv collected a while and from experience I know I took losses ony high es bowen and dcd and koto items. All I'm saying is I am deeply concerned about thos new trend. Its not a proven model in any industry. Charge a lot for a high volume product. These r not $50 bust

Yeah, perks for returning customers who go to the trouble to pre-order and wait a year or longer for something. Typically not a casual, retail minded consumer. SS isn't just doing something to experiment, they're doing it based on the available data and making a decision based on a number of variables. And yes, they're taking some chances along the way. They're not just picking a direction, putting all their chips on the table and hoping it works out somehow.

They're not investments, no matter how badly people want them to be.:dunno

This I agree with this 100%. They are taking a calculated risk and rolling the dice to see if this new business strategy will work out for them. Let's see what happens.

While I never really collected for investment purposes, I must say that it doesn't hurt when a piece I buy holds its value or appreciates. I would be more likely to spend my money on merch from a company that falls into this category. I don't care who you are, it never sits well if you bought a piece for $400 only to see it selling in the aftermarket for significantly less. However, that is always a risk we take when we pay full price on these pieces. Many factors play into the aftermarket value of a piece. ES is only one of them. Even a low ES is not a guarantee of increased value for any statue. However, it NEVER hurts.

That's why I always try to be selective whenever I buy a statue. It has to be a character I really like and look good, or I must be BLOWN AWAY by a sculpt if it's a character I don't know. The latter only happened once. I PO'd the SSC Arthas statue. I just couldn't help myself. The details in that piece are crazy good. It looks phenomenal. I collect this way because if a statue I buy depreciates in value, at least I can say I love it and I'm glad to have it in my collection.
