Yes that still sounds pretty ridiculous. How are you making up the deficit by charging higher sales taxes? Do illegal immigrants and celebrities buy more toilet paper and groceries than the average citizen? You do realize that if you charge a higher sales tax everyone is subject to it right? Not just illegal immigrants and rich celebrities. That wouldn't solve any of the problem you mentioned :monkey1 I am positive that there are very few countries in the world that have a zero income tax policy (Monaco is one that comes to mind).

But that is a topic for another thread :)

i'll just make up a figure here, say 25% sales tax. if i bought a $1 candy bar it would be $1.25. if i bought a $200,000 car it would be $250,000. as you can see the tax scales to what you buy. on the upside there would be no doing your taxes every year or paying somebody to do them for you because your doing your taxes every time you buy something. simple, easy and EVERYBODY pays an equal amount of taxes based on what they buy. the more you make the more your going to spend and the more your going to pay in taxes.

i'm no tax expert but it seems to me like the tax system being implemented right now sucks. i'm just thinking outside of the box here.

without getting into crazy details i was under the impression that some countries have a higher sales tax with no income tax and sometimes no property tax as well.

when you think about it doing this in a country like the United states would be amazing. first off you have SO many people that don't pay income taxes because they are here illegally and are paid under the table. so a higher sales tax would affect them as well. also you have rich celebrities that smuggle all their cash to other countries to avoid it being taxed. they would have to pay this higher tax as well.

of course there are more complex things to consider like import and export taxes for luxury items but for the most part it would solve lots of problems.

or you could also call me retarded but that's my personal opinion on how taxes should be done.

It's probably not the loophole you think. Most people that get paid "under the table" may not pay tax, but they likely make so little income that if they filed taxes they would pay little to no tax anyway. It may end up being a net loss, but not a huge one.

Also, people get taxed where they earn income. So athletes and many actors still get hit with taxation. The loopholes you're talking about is investment income. People with so much money they basically don't have to work and can make money off their money. Those are the people that would benefit from offshore accounts.

There's been plenty of talk about reforming the tax code at some point. The problem is that many professionals, such as accountants, have vested interest in keeping it more or less as is. There's also a general resistance to change. But certainly some form of consumption tax, like a VAT, could be an option. The devil is in the details.

ok then we just deport all those accountants that want things to suck forever :hi5:

Income tax is evil. What the hell kind of policy is it to penalize people for working?

Of course, you follow that to its logical end, and you get to all taxes are evil because they penalize people for living.

You want a solution for government shortfalls? Stop ****ing spending. It's not your money.

Hmmm... Not sure which model I prefer. Anyone in the mood for tea?

Always in the mood for tea. Right in the harbor.

(New Hampshire has no income tax. I think property tax is their main revenue source.)

Better?

Honestly, I wish I could as I think this looks great, but I go me two young boys, and I don't think their mom would appreciate me buying a nearly nudy statue...lol.

I'm lucky. My wife has no problem with the sexy statues. My 5 & 3 year old boys even less.
