Like fslar posted, blame the anime for Charizard's popularity. Hell, he is my fav Pokémon ever with 'toise a close second. Remember the first time you saw that 7th gym battle on the volcano, Charizard vs Magmar? I was ten at the time, holy ****.

I don't think his popularity is solely based on the Anime. I mean, he's the first true Dragon in the lineup. I don't count sissy Dragonite.

The anime is definitely where a significant portion of it came from. The design is neat as well, but all I know is all my friends weren't so big on Charizard (we still liked the designs of the starters) until Ash got Charizard when we were younger. That said, my personal favorite of the Kanto starters is Blastoise, always and forever but the other two still rock.

dominshin, you would be surprised at how many people love Venusaur over the other Grass starters and on its own.

Yeah he looks good for what he is. I appreciated the articulation they implemented. Now I just need them to make Greninja and a Jiggly puff of some sort. And I've got all the Pokemon from Smash Bros covered
