Flag waving is political? Now I know why democrats don't show patriotism...they're too afraid they'll offend someone...safety in numbers?

That right there shows why it's political. :)

And of course it's political. Express any hint of dissent and people go berserk!

The first post was flag waving. How is that not political?

Whether or not flag-waving is political, jingoistic or bombastic depends entirely on the context. Waving a flag in a thread entitle "9/11", that is created on the anniversary of the horrific date, is far from political. In fact, it is far from any of those negative definitions.

If you don't like it then don't go in the thread. What's the big deal?

If only you practiced what you preached before farting in the 9/11 thread.

And I vote NO. Because I come here to discuss toys, collectibles, and the usual geek/hobby stuff. I really would rather not know which of you are whiny leftists and/or right-wing zealots.

For instance, I like talking comics & movies with barbelith, but then I come in these threads and see a distinct lack of red meat in his diet. It's disconcerting. :lol

Seriously though, political and religious discussion have NO PLACE on these boards. There are plenty of wind-bag forums and blogs all over the interwebs for that stuff. Let this be a haven that focuses on what brings us all here in the first place.

What statement does flag waving make specifically? Do you (wrongly) assume that it means you support the war? Do you (wrongly) assume that it means you support EVERYTHING the country does?

IMO you're the one associating flag waving with a specific message. Is saying "I love my home" without saying whypolitical?

Really?

Just out of curiosity (and I hope I don't regret asking) but how is a waving flag political?

I couldn't disagree more. In fact the response to my post shows precisely how political and jingoistic the thread is!

Acting badly? :lol Ok. That's really ghey. I voice a non- popular opinion and I am behaving badly? :lol

Voicing an opinion, popular or not, is ok in the appropriate place in the appropriate manner. You seem to have difficulty discerning where it is appropriate and where it is not. Hence the purpose of this poll.
