:monkey2:monkey4 No poo flinging in my thread!! :cuss :lol

I think there have been some very valid points made in this thread about setting up some strict guidelines for political/religious threads....though deep down I wonder if it could actually work unless the mods really want to lay down the hammer when anyone steps over the line, even once.

As for the 9/11 thread - Rory, I got to side with Marc on this one. Not that you were asking my opinion anyway - :lol But considering this is the anniversary I would naturally assume that such a thread would be to remember and honor those who had lost their lives and those who continue to fight to protect us. In no way did I see it as a thread where politics would need to be brought in to the discussion - it's not necessary for that particular thread. For many waving the flag is not political- it shows pride in our country and that we will stay strong - whether you be a democrat, or republican or independent - we all do love our country or we probably wouldn't be here. I personally don't have a problem with you Rory and for the record I never asked you to be banned - but I do wonder why you like to stir the pot so much. You seem to get pleasure at offending and then seeing how people react. Not very productive, imo. :peace

Edit for politizing the thread. Sorry. I'm sure other opportunities to make my point will come.

Voicing an opinion, popular or not, is ok in the appropriate place in the appropriate manner. You seem to have difficulty discerning where it is appropriate and where it is not. Hence the purpose of this poll.

I don't really have difficulty discerning where a post or an opinion is appropriate or not- I just don't really see why it's a big deal if it's not "traditionally" or "socially" appropriate. I say my opinion and then I usually vacate unless someone wants to discuss it. If they do then I go further- it's a discussion board after all. That's it's purpose.

All these people that have a problem with my opinion have every right to put me on ignore and they should do it if I bother them that much. That's what the feature is for.

Still, in the context of that thread I was not in the wrong. Only now is it edited by the original poster saying what the purpose of the thread really is. :)

On this one, I side with barbelith. Bush grew government and spent tax dollars like the worst of tax-and-spend dems. He just spent it on Defense and related initiatives.

Obviously! We're in a war afterall (merits of which can be argued elsewhere).

Some of us feel the jingoistic flag waving and pointless occupation actually dishonor those who lost their lives and sit stoplossed in Iraq. Except that politely sharing this opinion is shouted down and considered disruptive. So please let's not pretend there aren't politics at play nor that a thread titled 9/11 and launching with nothing more than a waving flag has an obvious scope for Authorized Discussion.

I don't envy the moderators.

I'm sure Pixel has other threads in mind. I.E. every RIP thread you feel the need to drop rehea patties in. Surely you know the purpose of those.

Thats was a round-a-bout way of saying you have tact but you are too lazy to employ it. :lol

Guess common sense didn't let you know what the purpose of the thread was for huh? I've made my opinion known that I am not an Obama supporter, but God forbid (can I say that) something would happen to him. I wouldn't get in a memorial thread for him and post a smilie or anything. I would either not post or pray for his family. I know I would post some kind of prayer or something, but not something disrespectful.

I do find it amusing to see people get so bent out of shape over nothing but I do not intentionally stir the so called pot.

I see where you are coming from and can understand the original posters intention even though it wasn't very specific. I however, disagree that all our posts and thoughts have to be contained so uniformly. My opinion was that I was tired or hearing about 9/11 every year which is a reasonable opinion to me. It also fits in with the discussion of the event perfectly. It's just one view out of so many about that event but it has to be shut down because it doesn't fit with everyone elses view.

If the original poster had specifically stated that this was a thread strictly for memorial purposes I would have not posted- honestly!

The thread didn't make any mention of Iraq, so maybe I'm missing something, but it would seem that the connection is yours and not inherent in waving a flag.

Do you need every intention spoon fed to you? really? I KNOW you are smarter than that Rory.

How many people have mentioned the soldiers fighting for our freedom?

I dunno I didn't read the whole thread, I thought this was all stemming from your first post. And please don't roll your eyes at me.

Rory is right on this one. If the thread had been clearly delineated as a memorial I wouldn't have submitted my first post either. But the fact is that as much as you wish to think otherwise, the thread was not clearly delineated as anything.
