Could not resist any longer and got the war paint version today. Planned on getting the SS version for a while now, but never found deal on one so this guy is perfect for me.

Albion was the first. The sharp ones were sharpened by Jody Samson, the guy who did the swords for the movie. :) The early editions were perfect, but later, they started using darker patinas, the runes were cut differently, and even the size and shape of the bronze components changed slightly. I think after Marto got the license, their swords got better but I'd still go Albion/Filmswords if you have the $$$.

Back to statue, Jerry said I shouldn't have to repaint it, lol. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yes, I think I was enough of a PITA over at the statue forum to convince everyone that the cammo pattern was all wrong.
I'm sure he will make it right. Lord knows I posted enough reference material in that thread!

We all thank you, sir. I was going to buy the war paint version regardless, but it's nice that it will now be what it should be.

Tattoo version ordered, the best choice of it.

I agree. The cammo version is cool, but when he is brought back to life after the wizard applies the henna tattoos all over him, that scene is classic. Conan contemplating life and swinging his sword, I love it.
That's the version I got as well. I have the Sideshow cammo one, so I couldn't see getting another of that.

With the original inaccuracies of the warpaint version, it was an easy choice to go with the beach version. That is, until PCS stated that will make the paint accurate to the movie. At that point, it pushed the warpaint version slightly ahead for me but I love both of them.

I might have gone for both if the bases were different. They did a great job on the beach version, but a different base from the warpaint scene would have helped me consider both.

I was in the same boat as you. Been eyeballing SS's Conan ever since I decided not to jump on it when I could them for 500, but never found a deal I liked since then. So when PCS should they were doing a war paint/camo ;) version, figured why not.

When they first revealed it, there was no mention or indication that a war paint version was coming. Then I thought it was cool, but didnt feel like a buy. Even asked and PCS said they didnt feel they could top SS's version, so not worth the try. Also commented on how the base looked like it was perfect for camo :p version. Once I seen the painted, I said yes.

Firgured...1/3....PCS...pretty much the same price as finding SS's now or even cheaper.
Quality should be there, just have to wait it out now.

I bet it would be fairly easy to mod the base for a beach scene.
Sprinkle on some sand, done. Ok, a bit more than that. :D

Was thinking you could do something like how they do terrain for model trains or like tabletop games.
Get a piece made/molded/sculpted with holes to allow the feet to peg into place, then just glue/cover the little "dunes" with sand. Now you have a removable sand piece.

It should be a dark bronze with a patina. After all, he got it from an ancient Atlantean. He's also a little too well defined muscle-wise but that is ok - it makes for a more interesting sculpture. Milius didn't want him ripped.

Looking at the movie images of Conan on the beach, does the statue sword look a little to gold?

It's funny how Arnold looks small and flabby next to this statue of himself. He looks massive in that shot normally.

Regarding 'beach vs war paint' ....to each their own, but this beach version is the grail piece for me.
It's not hard to find multiple posts from me on this site in wish list threads using this exact frame as what I wanted as my ultimate Conan statue.
Always wondered how they'd do the hair since his hair is so different in that scene than every other scene in the movie. I think they've captured it well, though I think it should be lighter.

It looks like Chronicle is going to make a warpaint version as well although I'm thinking it will be 1/4 scale. They just posted a photo on their FB page...

On a different note, I have to mention that I have a picture of both PCS version on my corkboard at work and my coworkers couldn't believe they were statues, especially the beach version. They were blown away and said it is on a completely different level than most other pieces I've shown them. Nice!
