No, actually from the business point, close mouth version will lose way more than 1000 potentially buyers.
But let's just wait and see how it turns out to be. Hopefully we will have some updates about P1 next month.

from a business stand point, that's potentially 1,000 buyers they could be losing out on if it looks too similar to the SS version, which was approved by Winston himself.

Sorry darkmummy, but I agree with azurepred's assessment.

  • The market for these is not that great anyways.
  • Size + cost limits the number of people who would want to buy one.
  • Factor in the 1000 out there from the Sideshow release in 2005.
Result: you DRASTICALLY reduce the numbers of sales if the CoolProps looks too similar to the Sideshow piece.

ME being one of them :wink1:

There's nothing inherently less cool about the Predator with closed mandibles. Just because we've never really seen many in statue form, doesn't mean it can't be done.

If it looks similar to the SS piece I won't complain :D

There's one on eBay now. No box, quill damage, £1,450 :horror
He has been trying to sell for a while. Started at £2K+

I've always, always preferred the closed-mandible look on predators. It looks far more menacing and shows off much more personality than the roaring position IMO. Especially for a bust, where you don't get the rest of the body to accentuate the roaring pose.

:mwaha Exactly what I was thinking.
Give me a cool statue over a 'screen used' P.O.S.
Yup, that's how I feel. In regards to the CoolProps Aliens warrior busts at least.

I like the screen-used items. I don't care if they're damaged, because I'm not buying them for being flawless, pristine collectibles. I'm buying them because they were featured in one of my favorite films.

But if I'm buying a statue/bust, I expect it to best resemble the creature it's based on, and not the warped, bang'd-up prop it was cast from.

Same situation with the HCG Alien bust, which was utter crap because they didn't fix it up. Why would I want a replica of a damaged prop? :lol

Has that ever been done, in any scale?

I remember speculation that the P2 Maquette was going to be like that.
I don't think so, not in statue form anyway. The closest I can think is the SS P1 Maquette EX head mask that is removable, but it is not finished on the inside so does not really count. It does let you place it on the base for an extra display option though.

it's not realistic to do on a statue imo, it would scrape the front of the face too easily and if they padded the Bio to prevent that, the Bio would look weird sticking out so far.

It was like that, you can still see it on the finished item but they elected to glue the mask on and provide a second unmasked head as they were worried about paint scratches. It's probably why the bio isn't quite right, it was made with the restriction that it had to fit over the unmasked head. In the movies, they had special masks that the bio slotted onto rather than using the full face with mandibles etc beneath. I suppose it could be engineered to work though with careful planning. I bet it would cost a fair bit also..

Wot he said.

Plus people would complain as the quills would have to be left out AND the mandibles would have to be REALLY scrunched up.

That's why 2 heads are better than 1 :wink1:

I'm sooooooo close to ordering this. I'm hands down a bigger Alien than Predator fan which is why I've committed to all the Alien heads. This would just be a bit hard to swallow with all the Alien heads I already have preordered. But I don't wanna miss out because I'm gonna fold on the P1! And I freaking love the P2! Damn it man!! What to do what to do!?!?

Quills could be a durable bendable plastic/rubber and be ok under the mask. Perhaps they could just make the bio out of aluminum and very thin on the inside where it would not hit the mandibles. There is a way to do it, just takes some thinking and engineering. Probably won't happen of course as they would rather sell 2 busts than make one to do both.
