I couldn't really tell watching the film, but you can clearly see the bone sections inset into the gauntlet here. Nice match with the mask.
Overall, not my favourite Pred design, but with the mask on, it looks pretty cool.
Which makes the horrible face design an even bigger let down.
But anyway... to end positively (because I've bitched enough about the face) I do like the design here. I like the bone on Predator tech look. A nice visual representation of the technological advancement of the Predators, but their more primal nature as hunters.

Looks like all predators, regardless of era or tech, use same alphabet. It's on his wrist rig.

With all the money and effort that went into this, it is strange that they dropped the ball so bad with that horrible looking head. On another note, I got recommended a Youtube video of Peter Cullen (original Optimus Prime voice actor) earlier today. I had no idea that he was the voice of the original Predator.

Those voice actors from years back were such masters of their craft. Nowadays, I don't see that level of range or craftsmanship, and they rely too heavily on "real" actors to voice theatrical cartoons.

Lol I read that vid title wrong and got kinda scared for a sec.

With the mask on, he does look pretty damn good. Not my favourite Predator design, but a very solid look. Quite like it.
Apart from the hands. Don't know how they managed to screw those up. ADI made perfectly good Predator hands in the AvP movies they did, and the "Fugitive Pred" they did for The Predator.
But no, banana hands it is.
The look of the Preds head in profile took a little getting used to and I realised its because the skull mask is plush to his face and because its open for the mandibles, the mask doesn't have the classic "snout" that other Pred masks have.
It was also an interesting choice to have the actors head in the neck, rather than the Preds head. I know it allowed then to have the smaller head they wanted etc but they also ended up with a Pred with a very odd looking long neck.
Looks very awkward in profile, with the long neck and head jutting forward. Also looks a bit stiff in action shots where the actor doesn't move the Preds head with the movement of his own head.

I think it is unfair to judge the physical suit/prosthetics though. This does seem like something they had planned to be enhanced with CG during post. It did look much better during the film too.

That said, I do agree I prefer the older predator head designs than this. The helmeted version does look good though.

The design is horrible all around. Probably the worst in the franchise by far.

The story required they "low tech" the Predator here so he would not realistically have a plasma caster. Which would have been a game changer in terms of no human having any kind of chance at all.

While I find the parkour antics to be a little extreme, I do appreciate that a smaller speedy human at close range did have some practical advantages.

Clearly Trachtenburg did well enough to merit a sequel, probably two of them. Let's see where he takes it with a bigger budget, more opportunity, more time, etc, etc.

That's one thing I really did like about the Adrian Brody Predators, the closer the Super Predators got to the humans, the more dangerous it became for the Predators. The entire ranged attack, ambush and out tech stuff all starts to be negated once you get face to face.
