I don't really care about edition sizes/exclusive or not. When I see a badass sculpture, I'm going to buy it. Those who are complaining and saying they are not going to buy it now will miss out. Just saying, you will probably change your mind when you see in hand pictures from those of us who bought it.

Half the stuff Sideshow produces is poorly painted, poorly sculpted, crap. If I wanted something that's "high art" or because it's limited, I would never look to Sideshow for that.

I see Sideshow and Hot Toys simply as high-end toy makers. My thought process when collecting is "This looks awesome, I want it". Not, "Not many people will own this, I want it".

No offense to those who do collect for the exclusivity, it's just something I've never really understood when it comes to companies like Hot Toys and Sideshow. They make thousands of collectibles and they're so mainstream nowadays I just can't imagine someone choosing SS/HT over another company like, say, Cinemaquette, for true collectibles that are rare and limited.

You guys are missing the point. These things are not cheap. Each piece Sideshow puts out costs a few hundred each. Overtime, one person may spend a few thousand on these collectables. I don't know about you, but personally I don't want to invest thousands into products which have no value and are basically worthless. No, I'm not expecting to get rich by investing in collectables, but it would be nice to at least break even if I ever decide to sell up and get out of the hobby. Even if I do make a loss by selling, I'd want to minimize this as much as possible. Having an open edition size for a product takes away the value of it, and if you do decide to sell it one day you'd struggle to even get half of your money back.

Also, people choose Sideshow and Hot Toys for their collectables simply because they sell what people want and have so many licences, so it doesn't leave collectors with much choice. As an example, up until recently, if you wanted high end collectables of The Dark Knight trilogy, you had to buy from Hot Toys, so it kind of leaves collectors with little choice. I'm sure if other companies were offering high end products from these licences then people would look elsewhere. Other than Cinemaquette though, who else offers true high end collectables that are rare and high quality? Not to mention that Cinmaquette are in a much higher price bracket, have hardly any licences so collectors have very limited choices. If you want a product that Cinemaquette don't offer, then what? Not to mention all of Cinemaquette's human statues have very poor likeness to the actors. Sure, the quality may be great, but if it looks nothing like the actor what's the point? I only like their non-human statues, but as stated, they are much more expensive.

You're right, they're not cheap. And if I'm spending that much money on something I plan to keep it. I would never, ever let the chance that I might need an extra $100 - $1000 due to a random financial incident that may or may not occur several years in the future dictate what collectibles I buy.

When I buy a collectible, it becomes mine. It's something I plan on keeping until the day I die.

Having an open edition does not take the value away from it. It might take away some aftermarket value (ie profit- if you were to sell it) but it does not mean it will be worthless in 5 years like you seem to think it will be.

People don't just sell because they need money. Sometimes a person's taste may change in collectibles, and you may decide you no longer want a certain piece in your collection and may want to sell it to fund something else, or you may want to take your collection in a different direction altogether and sell off several pieces. I for one started out collecting 1/6, but my interests have since changed and I'm more interested in 1/4 scale and up now, so I've decided to sell my 1/6 stuff. Things change over time. You may find one day you've lost all interest in collectables and have taken up a new hobby, so you may decide to sell it all. Just because you plan to keep your stuff forever, doesn't necessarily mean you will.

Yes it does. If it has an open edition then Sideshow will just keep making them until everyone that wants one gets one, so you'll have a very hard time selling it later down the track, as by then everyone who wanted one would have already got one. If you think you'll sell it for what you paid you're kidding yourself. There are some pieces which have an edition size and still sell poorly, so imagine a product with no edition size.

Both valid arguments.

There will come a time when I'm old, sorry older, and I'll probably sell my collection and travel more or move to a smaller house.
If not that I'll hand it over to my son.
Do I want my collection to be worthless? No.

But still, I'll buy the things I love and that make me happy.
Will it stop me getting it? No
I'll still get this the only difference is i'll get it locally.
I was going to spend the extra £40-50 for the nameplate and lower number but now I know there will be no 'Exclusivity' the cheaper option is the way to go.

If SS can keep selling Exclusives direct for as long as they can and Regulars through retailers you can't really blame them.
Will they sell less product as a result? Probably not.

Very true I went from DC(all sold) to Marvel and now I'm slowly progressing to Predator, and I usually only get Hot Toys but I have PO'd this and some Bio's and I might get a few more statues :D

ORDERED!... Locally.

My retailer, the best in the U.K, kindly moved funds from Ivy to this.
DC will be admired from afar with so much cool Marvel & Alien/Predator stuff about.

I may eventually get it since I still really love this piece and wanted a masked bust, but I won't be paying full price for one if there's no edition size.

Don't know if you'll get huge discounts unlike the IM LSB which turned out pretty crap (but still cool).
Should be available for less though.

AWESOME post :goodpost:

I do not buy to get my money back - I buy because i like the piece and I have a Predator fetish that borders on the insane.

HOWEVER - when my kids inherit this stuff and decide to sell most of it, I'd like them to get back a REASONABLE percentage of what they originally cost.

Unnumbered releases with unlimited or HUGE edition sizes reduces the chance of that. That's why I didn't buy the latest batch of Pred releases from Hot Toys - already had the originals and they now make too darn many.

.

They can't even give an ES on the EX? Its a damn nameplate. Throw us a bone SS.

Didn't you guys learn anything from the limited edition Wolf Predator LSF. You gonna get caught slipping and SSC gonna shut it down and reseller will jack the price up.

No chance with this.
Wolf was the one and only example of an open edition piece being closed early.
