Congrats on the harddrive and saving space! I'm always a proponent of getting rid of stuff. To answer your question, yes, the scenes in TPM have been altered with a CG Yoda, but not in a full release. The altered scenes can be seen as part of a behind-the-scenes doc on the bonus disc for ROTS.

Ahhh yea, I knew I saw it somewhere. So it has been done...just not implemented yet in the actual TPM dvd. But the blu-rays are in the works, who knows maybe 3D blu-rays of all 6 films. I think by 2012 we will have them.

And yes digital is the way to go now, more people need to adapt I haven't bought a DVD or blu-ray in years. And only the 6 Star Wars films on blu-ray will get me to break that trend.

Since I have the THX OT on DVD, I actually don't care what Lucas does now. He can 3-Dize them, throw in a CG Yoda and Ackbar, add Bail and The Emperor to ANH, whatever. At this point, I treat it like listening to a cover of a song I love: It's interesting, but I'm not threatened by the new version.

I am looking forward to getting blu-rays of everything.

All this prequel talk actually did make me want to watch the prequels, but right now I'm away on an acting gig and I only brought ROTS. I gotta say, the acting is holding up a lot better for me than I remember. Even that balcony scene with Anakin and Padme is working out. She's not flirtatious, but she's clearly twitterpated with dear Annie. And Haydn actually does have a lot of stuff going on in his eyes. It's hard to see for all the hair, but he's got some real moments. I may watch it again, just to make sure I wasn't high or something.

Over the years I've found that my opinion on the PT is not unlike Doc Brown's opinion on being told your future. I can get all snobby and wax eloquent that combining the two trilogies will upset and destroy the space/time continuum but whenever the PT is on television I always end up putting on my bulletproof vest and saying "Oh what the hell" and enjoy them anyway. :lol

TPM probably got the longest lovefest from me. I saw it in the theater more times than I care to mention because I was trying to soak it all in AND marry it to the movies I grew up with. And I was thrilled when it came out on DVD. There is something charming in it that I can't put my finger on.

Simple. It was the one that used the most actual locations, large practical sets (instead of just blue/green screen everywhere) and was shot on actual film. Hell, they even built the podracers full-size and took them to Tunisia just for the shots of them sitting on the starting track before the race. In EP2 and EP3, even things like R2 and Clones are all digital.

It actually fits in with the OT much better than the other 2 organically. It's almost nostalgic now, in ways EP2 and EP3 never will be.

Exactly. It was the only prequel to actually have sets built and not really on fake looking CGI. It felt the most like the original trilogy because they actually built set pieces from Tatooine and what not. It still felt tangible, where the other films feel colder and less inviting.

The extra use of CGI never really bothers me, I dunno why, I hardly even notice it. When it is pointed out, or when I do notice it, I will say the actual sets always look much better.

I really wish the other two used more real set pieces, they might have felt a bit more like Star Wars.

Okay, so the wiser half and I saw the PT this week with a new set of eyes. Essentially, we liked the story. It basically had all the right elements and potential. Sadly, the problems that we always had with the films are still there. Poor choice of actors, especially Hayden and Samuel. Poor choice of screenwriter. Poor choice of director. I still feel that the transition from the good side to the dark side was awfully choppy. I felt the same way about the relationship between Anakin and Padme. In the end, I just didn't believe it. Obi Wan came off awfully whiny at times too, like C3PO.

George Lucas should have stepped aside and allowed someone else to do this as it could have been a classic.

the PT could have EASILY been greater than the OT if Lukas had let others helm the film. Look at the ONLY film he didnt direct himself : ESB.

only stupid people think ESB isnt the best SW movie.

the PT did accomplish one thing I'd NEVER think was possible: make the rise of darth vader silly, they actually made a powerful character a whiny boy lol.

Ewan mcGregor did excellent though, apart from the lines where he says "younglings" lol.

And while they were at it they had to ruin Yoda.
And kill Maul.
And they didnt kill JarJar.
And NOOOOooooo.

pukefilms the PT is.

Only stupid people think their opinion is absolute

OT turned Vader the powerful into a soft, pasty old man.

OT ruined Han-turned him "respectable"
OT killed Boba Fett
OT didn't kill Ewoks
And "I was going to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters"

OT>PT all day and twice on Sunday. However, lets not pretend the OT didn't have it's faults. IMHO, the weakness of the PT is it's cop-out use of CGI. Real locations, real models FTW.

I've been on an all-around SW kick with CV coming up and have been watching mostly the OT in anticipation of it. I do like a lot of elements from the PT however, and decided to watch them again. Today I watched TPM, enjoyed its take on the saga (for the most part), but then found myself kind of dreading having to sit through AOTC. On a whim I just grabbed ROTS instead and popped it into the DVD player. Surprisingly I found the prequel saga much stronger if you completely bypass AOTC!

Its not that its a lesser film (and I won't bore everyone with the reasons, watch that one guy's youtube reviews if you must know), but virtually nothing that happens in AOTC even needs to be seen to propel Anakin's story.

The whole movie is basically summed up in a few lines at the beginning of ROTS. References to his mother dying at the hands of Sandpeople and him taking revenge, recapping that Dooku cut off his arm, the fact that Anakin and Padme have secretly gotten married; all mentioned very early by characters almost as if Lucas knew that AOTC could have been bypassed all together.

Then you're just left with a pretty nice symmetry between TPM and ROTS. TPM ends with Anakin being an accidental pilot, ROTS begins with him kicking ass and taking names in a starfighter. TPM begins with two Jedi struggling against a standoff with droidekas, ROTS begins with them casually sidestepping them. Anakin even does a barrel roll in his fighter similar to a move he did during one of the laps in his pod racer.

Without the whiny Justin Timberlake version of Ani with virtually zero charisma in AOTC, it suddenly is instantly more feasible when he sweeps Padme in his arms at the beginning of ROTS that she would actually find some appeal to the cool headed badass who just rescued the Chancellor.

I could go on (quite a bit actually) but I strongly recommend that anyone who likes the PT but finds AOTC to be the most lacking to just watch TPM and ROTS back to back. You may be shocked at how much stonger the narrative of the prequels becomes.

Hmmmm... Richard Marquand directed ROTJ. :slap:slap:slap

And the second statement is an IMO...
