Yeah.. I keep asking for pics from all these people.. Michael Crawford is well respected and does hundreds of reviews ranging from small figures to large PF's. He's well respected. I want to clarify: THESE pics are from HIS review. They're not from ME. I saw it (because I check out his site often since I find the reviews honest and unbiased) and I was shocked because I remembered seeing the Prototype for the NECA Stuntman Mike figure and thought it was perfect. Then when I saw the actual product I was like "how the hell did that happen!?" It's a HUGE difference.

I am at work, so I cant post a pic yet.
Can you post the link to his review? I don't think he is totally unbiased. He tends to go soft on companies that send him free or reduced cost products..me thinks.

what a shame ... I was waiting for that Beetlejuice figure :sick

Saw closeup pics of Beetlejuice on Spawn boards. Actually looks great. The owner said it looked dead on, and as far as I can see, it's good.
Not a PF figure, sure, but for 12.99 piece of plastic, it is not too shabby.

Whats funny is the Tarantino figure from Grindhouse came out really nice looking (used a colored plastic that looked realistic) but then when the release a more interesting character it looks like crap.

HA! I'm actually looking at the figure as I type this. I picked one up on clearance for $1.44 the other day. Gotta have a Tarantino...

The Ninja Turtles they made should be 6" scale figures of the year.

Those figures are flawless IMHO and the best thing NECA's probably ever produced...

ACTUAL PRODUCT

And I saw 3 of these figures in the store the other day and they looked NOTHING like that. While the paint apps did vary they were miles better than that picture...

Read the review.. it clearly states:

Micheal Crawford said:
Now, keep in mind that these are 7" scale figures, so the close up photos show far more than your nekkid eye can possibly make out. That being said, Mike still has some serious issues.

Regardless.. the "Prototype" shot is ALSO a hi-res close up. So it doesn't matter.

Neca is notrious for "looking for the best paint" syndrome. Some are good, but most in the batch suck horribly.

yeah for that price I'll buy it anyway :)

I don't get how people can be so harsh on a 15 dollar figure when there's PF's that have crap paint apps, 130 dollar aliens that fall apart when looked at wrong...
Let's just keep a little perspective here.
No toy or collectible company manages to have perfect QC, and they all have their ups and downs. I wish they were all perfect, but sadly, it ain't so.
You got a faulty/crappy 15 dollar figure? Go buy another one.
Not as easy when you get a crappy 300 dollar PF or 130 dollar figure. Sure, you can get a refund if you're lucky, but the point is still the same: all companies deliver crap every once in a while.

Having said that, yes, the figure in this thread looks terrible.

Well since I started the thread I'll answer abake: Price is irrelevant. This has to do with promoting one thing (Prototype) while delivering something COMPLETELY different (Actual Product). This goes beyond Toy companies too. The biggest offender is/always has been the Food Industry. So I'm not just pointing out Toy manufacturers.. it's just look at the site we're on, it's appropriate.

I honestly don't care how much NECA sells that Stuntman Mike figure for.. whether it's $12 bucks, $120 bucks, or if they give it out for free with ballons attached to it while a midget dressed up like a cherub stands on a ladder above you sprinkling fairy dust to make it glitter.

Bottomline: the Actual Product looks absolutely nothing like the Prototype. Period.

I completely agree with you. It is very very annoying when the prototype looks nothing like the actual product.

Now, having said that, i would be much more pissed if I spend 300 dollars on something crappy looking, compared to spending 15 dollars.

I got Beetlejuice from eBay- $13.99 shipped - and I am very pleased with how he turned out. Excellent likeness of Keaton and the paint job, on mine at least, was quite good for the scale. I attached a photo below.

I agree about Stuntman Mike- the final product was not close to the prototype. NECA does seem to be pretty hit and miss, but at least with Beetlejuice they hit the target. Looking forward to getting the 18" version of him as well.

I was looking forward to this Beetlejuice for such a long time and then I saw it at the mall and was like "DAMN!!!" that thing is horrid. Not a big fan of it at all. What a let down. And they're doing an 18" version. Maybe that will be better.

I understand your point perfectly, and I'm not debating that.
My point is that such things happen with every single toy company, regardless of pricing, and that I at least find it even less excusable when it happens with a "high end" collectible.

I'll most likely get Beetlejuice as he turned out pretty nice, but no way on Mike. Really wish they'd kept with the moulded plastic... it really looked very nice. This gloppy paint is terrible.

Agreed. :D
