:lol they start young these days. My older one has been filled with angst since she was very young. It's a daily thing for us to have her look to the positives. The younger one though is a bundle of positivity. You'd want to bottle whatever she's got going on there. I've realised that there's only so much as a parent you can take the blame or credit for.

xjamiex and furystorm have me thinking that maybe introducing the older one to meditation might be worth a shot.

The older one has always been too intense for her own good. Thinks too much, but it's because she has too much to think about. The little one is just plain crazy. Shot out of a cannon and showing no signs of slowing down. It's like she's in a constant state of ecstasy. It takes a lot to wipe the grin off her face, and she recovers almost instantaneously.

I tried to get the older one to meditate when she was little. I asked her to close her eyes and sit still for one minute. She said it was the hardest, most uncomfortable thing she ever did.

Thanks for all responses, everyone.

Having another of my 'can't sleep nights.' I mean, I know the cause. Just spent a year unemployed and pretty much tight on cash, and this job feels like my last chance to be independent without having to move in with family. So, I go to bed at night and all of this starts dancing in my head. I should be able to sleep well Fri and Sat nights but two days aint enough.....

Did try a lot of different stuff tonight: ambient noise, less caffeine, less distractions.......almost worked at first. So doing what the articles have indicated: don't just lie in bed - get up and stay busy until you feel tired.

I try to work out to sleep but It wont make me, I just cant,
I try to read, I try to watch tv, it just won't help,
I have not tried Melatonin pills but I hear they work really well,

cant go to bed, feel really really tired, but my brain won't shut off, Ican't keep thinking about the stuff I want to buy online or the plans I have for tomorrow, or the halloween events I have planned, worrying about stuff,

if you find a solution to make your brain shut up you Must share it with me

I do this as well, the noise of the fan is quiet enough to let you sleep and you are getting nice air as well,
I rather use the fan than a ghost noise machine!

Except in the cold Canadian winters, it can get too cold in my room sometimes :(

But it's definitely wonderful in the summer. I wonder if I could buy some sort of heat fan (nothing too hot like a space heater). I have a ceiling fan as well that I use mostly in the summer but I know it does have a winter setting to force the hot air down. I might try that out.

Just take a handful of melatonin like I do :lol

smoke some weed you losers

you guys sound like a bunch of freaks.. weed + fan = zZZzzZZZzzz

bodie

Best advice right here.

Honestly, I have severe insomnia, and won't sleep for days unless aided. But about 5-6 melatonin a night should do. Smoking weed can help a lot as well. Haven't been on hard sleeping drugs for 4 years. :yess:

sleep is awesome

Indeed sir.

I've had insomnia since I can remember (about 6 years old and earlier I think). I became used to 4 hours of sleep/night. My brain doesn't want to shut off, no matter how physically tired I am. I developed a slew of methods to help me get to sleep through the years but found that, as life's stressors got stronger, I started becoming immune to them as I got older. I used to read in bed and it worked for a long while, but not any longer (plus, arms/hands get tired trying to hold up the book/Kindle). I was only getting 1-2 (if lucky) hours/night. After about 3 weeks of this and I started hallucinating at work, I went to my doctor and begged for sleep aid. I only take Ambien when I start going through one of those destructive cycles -- a 30-day supply usually lasts 6 months. I also have other helpers around for in between the bad bouts - melatonin, Alteril, even Nyquil. I also turn on the TV to help block out some of the brain function and to provide background noise. Be sure to tune in to an innocuous, brainless show (Golden Girls works for me) that helps in focusing on other stuff besides what your brain is doing.

Even with sleep aids, a 5-6 hours of sleep maximum is all my brain will allow me. But it sure is better than what I had been getting.

Establish proper sleep hygiene and consult your physician. They will probably recommend a medication for short term, but hopefully also refer you to a Counselor to address possible anxiety conditions if that doesn't work.

This is exactly how I wound up with the Complete Adventures of the Golden Girls on Bluray. :(

Srsly tho, rub one out, smoke a j, then eat a sandwhich, if you can stay awake after that your a real champ. :lol

Melatonin, and working out like a motherf'r.! (emphasis on the workout) I get insomnia as well, and the mind plays tricks.(and the best way to clear the mind is exercise) I workout 4-6 days a week, AND have a physical job. I workout before work and then goto work for 8 hrs. When i get home i take some melatonin and i do sleep. (average 5-7 hrs)

In this day and age we don't move the body enough. And the body sleeps when it's tired. Trust me if you workout good enough, i mean hard, you will sleep.

You're welcome!

(I also have a fan going, and have all my life need it)

"Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” - Bruce Lee

Try writing in a journal. Write down the stuff you have been thinking about so you don't forget it, and then it is easier to relax and sleep.

It happens only in a hot room, that keeps circulating hot air. Eventually the person dries out more and more until they die of hyperthermia. I believe it would have to be pretty hot in your room to cause it, though.

I ended up calling my sister last night around 3am cause I was really frustrated - just talking to fmy helped - laid back down and slept from 330a - 8:00a - thats a major success for me

Really tired from first day at work and since its fri tomorrow, the pressure is off of me to some degree.....

Just tweeted: "Damn, my bro called me last nite at 3am cos he couldn't sleep. After I hung up I couldn't sleep for 4 hrs. $#%&!!!!"
