How is that ironic?
We've had this conversation before. Iron Man has always been a Marvel heavyweight indeed. That doesn't always equate with popularity outside of comic geekdom, though.
Granted, the writing on his solo books wasn't exactly stellar, but he already had good writers by the late 70's and 80's, such as David Michelinie or Dennis O'Neil. Granted, those runs are no Frank Miller or Alan Moore level, but are well respected among fans. Busiek's run in the late 90's was good enough, too.
Just pretend 'The Crossing' never happened.
I meant that he's from where I am. Maybe another term would have been better. Yes, among Iron Man fans, the comics are fine. I just meant that it was always Spiderman or Fantastic Four or X-Men or Hulk, etc. Iron Man appealed to a smaller group of fans. I had large runs in the 80's while my friends had all the other Marvel characters.
