Well we can all forget getting a new Punisher movie that's anything other than balls since Marvel have the rights again. Be it Jane, Stevenson or the Punisher incarnate - Marvel are never going to risk losing out on possible revenue by sticking to violent source material and making an R rated movie. That's why The Wolverine is going to suck hard. Sure, it's not all about blood and guts but you just can't do a character like this justice with a damned PG-13 rating!

so is it official that it went back to Marvel?

Warzone was pretty much the Nail on the Punisher coffin, the movie made what, like 10 million total? no one, I mean Barely No one saw that,

although, Marvel might still do a good job, Iron man 1 was pretty solid and the movies have action, the problem with the pg-13 Crap of the second movie is how anticlimactic everything was, and how little he spend punishing

As great as that was, I saw Jack Reacher then the Punisher.

But it was still fairly well made, a few dumb editing issues, but the overall short was great.

wolverine origins sucked hard but it made money :dunno

That's my point exactly. Unfortunately it's all about making money and not a great movie. Avengers was good but it lends itself well to a PG-13 - The Punisher: not in the least. What really gets to me is that an R rated movie CAN make good money (i.e. Hangover) but if they make it a PG-13 it can make even MORE money. Just makes me kinda sad :-(

see I don't get it, I really don't,
people in the comments are praising this short, saying is amazing, and they are praising Thomas Jane and the second Punisher movie while trashing Warzone,
I agree Thomas Jane might be a better Punisher,
but this short was just like Warzone with the blood and the violence,
violence that the second movie barely had.. are people retarded?
wtf?

Not sure about everybody else, but for me, I prefer the more classic look of the Punisher to the greased back, slick, collared look of Bradstreet's version. A movie like War Zone, with Jane, minus the BS Iraq commentary and Jigsaw's hokey-assed brother, and it's perfect.

I don't know, R movies are a slippery slope, I kinda wish they had a better rating system, this whole pg-13 and then jump to R (18) is ridiculous,
in the age of youtube and facebook, where kids can see videos like 2girls1cup, or google pictures of dead bodies, movies still have to be rated like this is 1980?

there should be another rating between pg 13 and R, one in the middle, like for 16 and up, I don't know, I think the whole thing is really stupid

That's the good thing about the U.K. they've got a 15 rating for in between kinda things. Over here in Germany we've got a 16 rating which is similar but seeing as 90% of those movies are American it's pretty much redundant :rotfl Germany's really touchy when it comes to violence though. Even if the film is rated 18 (R) a large majority are still cut!!

i like every incarnation of the punisher in the comics, but i love the ennis/dillon ones because of how cold and psychotic frank had become. as insane as it sounds, i think a 3 way mix of the way lundgren/jane/stevenson played the punisher would work well. each one had some elements down perfectly.

i've said it before, but unlike most comic book characters, the punisher has been done as a movie about a thousand times, especially during the 80s. in essence punisher movies are nothing new unless they really invest in the character and story and do something that really stays true to the comics. in that sense, as much as i love the grittier, max-style punisher, perhaps going back to circle of blood with a more classic approach might actually be more successful.

Blade 1 and 2 were both R, and they were awesome! 3 wasn't all that bad either.

i can still watch it, but the 3rd blade felt like a massive drop in quality to me. poor story, cheesy script, wesley phoning it in. and it made blade look like an _______. curse of the marvel 3 i guess - blade, x-men, spider-man. let's hope IM3 fairs better.

And yet German porn is some of the most disgustingly vile garbage known to mankind. :monkey4

Great short!

Personally, I prefer Stevenson as the Punisher. He captured that gritty no-nonsense look that I've always envisioned as Frank Castle. He reminded me of the John Romita Jr./Tim Bradstreet Punisher as opposed to the "good-looking" Jim Lee one someone mentioned earlier. Though I do like Thomas Jane in the role as well and it's extremely cool to see him do something like this.

Wasn't there a rumor that MARVEL was considering pitching The Punisher as a TV series to some of the cable movie networks like STARZ! and HBO? It could do REALLY well by sticking to the source material and violence considering shows like SPARTACUS and Game of Thrones with their success.

true, I loved Stevenson, for me was pretty amazing, he was really great at being Punisher, well, I liked him a lot,

I love Thomas Jane as an actor but I preferred Stevenson

Not really, no. That's the crapfest where they're talking about making him a detective. :monkey1

:rotfl the japs and brazilians seem to want the crown now though :thud:

Germany loves sex and nudity and America loves violence. Vice versa - not so much

I dunno. I love violence, I love sex and I love nudity. But I don't like watching someone eat poop, stuff cockroaches and squid in their vajayjays while they squeel like 6-year-old girls, nor do I like seeing what seem like beautiful women endowed like donkeys. :huh

i loved Jane and Stevenson's punisher.
what i didn't like about Jane's punisher was the lack of worthy villain. travolta looked ghey, i couldn't even remember his name...and i wished he had MORE kills.
