I need to tone the hair of one of my Qmx Star Trek figures from black to silver grey.

What kind of paint should I use, acrylics, chalk? Do I need to put a coating after the painting?

Your advice is highly appreciated. Thank you!

I had my Kirk and Spock shipped from BBTS as my Pile of Loot was about to expire. So I should have them by Monday to join McCoy.

I'd be interested in this advice too.

Acrylics and a dull/flat clear coat after the paint dries complete. Spray on or brush either way make it a light coat. Tamiya is a great brand for paints and finishes and available on line.

Received Kirk and Spock today. Pretty happy with both. I will say I think in hand Kirk’s sculpt feels somehow off. The likeness is there, but it’s definitely a case where some angles are better than others. Not awful, but not sure if I feel it’s dead on to Shatner. Spock is quite good though. Still happy to have the trio in my collection. Hope I’ll be able to grab Scotty and Sulu at some point.

Thank you very much, Scifi67. Do I need to sand the hair a little bit before going to paint? Will the coat prevent the paint from blistering or so?

I will absolutely purchase QMX's Uhura if she ever materialises. In the meantime...

I've never sanded any before painting, you may want to wash with a mild soap. The clear coat just helps protect it and gives it a nice finished look. As always with painting head sculpts it's about thin layers and washes, nothing is ever one solid color.
