I bought one and it finally arrived at my home today. Unfortunately, I am on vacation for the rest of the week so I won't see it until Saturday!

I am writing because my brother opened the top of the box to inspect it. He noticed that at the top of the front of the head, near where the top of the head goes towards the dreads on the back, there are speckles of white where the darker brown skin is. He notices that the brown paint goes over some of the white specks in some parts, and that the white parts feel glossy like the rest of the paint on the bust. I am writing to ask if all of the busts have these white speckles on the head, and if this is a part of the paint scheme. All I have to show what I am talking about is this poor-quality camera phone picture he sent me:

He says it is spread throughout the bust, all in area where the dark brown skin goes towards the tip where the dreads are on the back.

Is this the regular paint scheme? Am I freaking out for no reason? Thanks!

Classic case of Sideshow factory bad paint application.

Could anyone please post a good picture of the top of the head for me?

Looks like it might be attributed to the packing rubbing some of the paint off.

Bummer. :(

I haven't seen it in person yet, but my brother says it doesn't look or feel like any paint came off. In fact, he says that in some places it looks like there is the brown paint going over it.

I guess I'll have a better idea when I see it in person. I'd rather have something like this than the ones that came with broken off necklaces, deadlocks, or "face hairs," though. Also, with it being right at the tip like that, I'm not too worried about it. If it were right across the face it would be another story.

If anyone could get me a good picture of the top of the head where it meets the dreadlocks, I would appreciate it. :)

I have this bust as well and it isn't part of the paint scheme. Did you buy it 2nd hand or from a retailer?

I wish I could find a retailer (selling it for retail price too!) who still has it. I got it on ebay for a pretty good deal including the live discount.

I'm not going to get worked up about it until I get home from vacation. Besides, it is on the tip top of the head towards the back near the hair, not the front of the face. I'd rather have something like that than one that is broken. It looks to me like it is just sloppy paint application on Sideshow's part.

I think there was a better closeup picture of the top of the head here before, but not I can't see it. Could someone please post a good clear closeup picture of the top of the head here for me? Thanks!

Alright, I have reported this to my seller, and he claims that there was nothing out of the ordinary when he sent it. He suggested that when it was in shipping, the paint actually rubbed off onto the foam housing. I am sure this is not the case, because there is no excess paint on the foam itself, and the white speckles clearly appear and feel to be glossy and on top of the body paint.

I am trying to determine if this is something that was done in the Sideshow factory, or if these are damages or added paint done somewhere in the after-market. I highly doubt someone would have gone and painted that on after buying it, and I am hoping that it is something done in the factory directly. Here are better images:

I would appreciate any insight or help as to what you think is the deal with it and what I should do. Thanks!

This bust is getting harder and harder to find now and i can imagine how you must feel. Honestly, I could live with the discoloration at the back near the dreads (IMG 1775). But that big blotch on IMG 1779 looks pretty bad:( It doesn't look like it would be that hard to touch up though. Considering that it is mostly near the back of the bust, it wouldn't have to be absolutely perfect. I agree with you, that I would rather it arrive in that condition, than with broken off mandibles or something. When I got mine, I thought for sure that one of the teeth would be broken or something.

You stated that you got a good deal, so it is safe to say that if you returned it, you would probably not be able to get one at that price again. Also, if you return it, I believe that you will have to pay the return shipping charges even if you get a full refund. Unless the seller is nice enough to cover that.

If I got a good deal, I would just keep it and touch it up. That's just me. I don't think its fair to accuse the seller of selling damaged merchandise. Unless, I had some reason to believe that he purposely sold it damaged and failed to explain the damage in the listing. Then I would try to get a partial refund.

As crazy as it sounds, I bet you could list your bust on ebay with pics of the damage and someone will still bid $1000!:D

On another note, I bought mine used on ebay as well. I've only taken it out of the box one time for inspection. This was several months ago, but I believe I do remember there being some light paint damage at the back of the head. It must be from rubbing on the packing materials. I will try to get it out and take pics today. I hope it isnt worse than I remember it being.

hey i inspected mine and it did have several places at the back of the head ,where it looks like the paint rubbed off. I tried to take pics, but the spots would not show up in the pics. I just spend about an hour touching those spots up with some paint. It went OK. It isn't perfect, but the touch-ups are not noticeable unless you get really close. Especially, since the spots were at the very top of the head at the back, where those ridges meet the dreadlocks. I also had to fix one of the face whiskers. One was missing, but it came with a bag of the whiskers. None were the right size, so I had to cut one shorter and then shave off the bottom so that it would fit. anyway, here is a pic of the top of the head that you were asking for.

Wow, cool! Thanks a lot for the insight guys! I don't feel as bad about it now knowing that this seems to be more common than I thought. I appreciate your detailed insight. I didn't pay as low as $1000, but I did get a considerable deal compared to the one that went for $2k just a week and a half ago. Thanks again for your detailed help!
