Asmus has had some missteps along the way but which company hasn't (even the mighty Hot Toys and new kids inart have their share of controversies). But I can't help but root for Asmus because they have interacted with us on the board and they have always seemed like genuine fans of the property.

Now that inart have taken steps into the fellowship of the ring licence with two great figures and at least two more on the horizon, it falls to Asmus to play the sideshow to Hot Toys with Star Wars figures. There is definitely room in middle-earth for two 1/6 figure companies but Asmus need to be strategic in their figure selection.

So avoid any character looks that inart are likely to make, go for army builders (especially bad guys so you can re-use bodies or armour pieces), pick characters that Asmus have not yet covered, re-do others but in a different outfit whilst offer head upgrades for their existing figures.

The following figures spring to mind for me:
1. Haldir
2. Gil-galad
3. Elrond (hobbit armour or Council of elrond robes)
4. Boromir in gondor armour with banner
5. Eowyn shield maiden dress
6. King ellesar (or Aragorn's Black Gate armour)
7. Lurtz (Ugluk, generic uruk)
8. Shagrat & Gorbag
9. Sharku on warg (could reuse the warg for a release of gothmog or hobbit warg rider)
10. Frodo and Sam in orc armour, Merry in rohan armour and Pippin in Gondor armour
11. Grima Wormtongue
12. Denethor
13. Gamling with rohan banner
14. Thranduil
15. Radaghast
16. Isildur
17. Elendil
18. King of the dead
19. Peter Jackson as Corsair captain
20. Generic Rohan armour, gondor armour, helms deep elven armour, numenorian armour.

They could do a battle damaged/weary Aragorn. Something slightly outside the box. King Aragorn....

I wonder if Crown Series is JUST LOTR? Or is it rooted hair figured. So will Snake be a Crown Series?

And I will buy them all!

They said Snake was the next Crown figure after Thanduril so that's likely the 4th one they're referencing to.

I don't forget Asmus' bumps in the road and lol the community doesn't let them forget either. 😁

But I'll always have mad respect for them for their clever use of inexpensive materials and going IMO above and beyond, like Gimli's 5 diecast axes for that price. Developing sturdy dwarf bodies. Some nice diorama stands. Generous use of cloth like Gandalf the Grey's cloak. Attention to tiny details like the little maps.

But would everyone? I'm on the fence about that. Am sure ASMUS factored in what people are generally willing to pay. I'm already at the point of the "average" 300-340$ HT being like, wait a minute. Sure, I pay for a really wanted figure, but pass on others. I start thinking about a $500+ plus fig and then I think some more. Hard. Two figs and you're up to $1000. 😮
True. Props are given when due. I feel like the community has been fair. I hope we are still getting Thranduil. Ngl I think Inart has soured some of my excitement for Asmus LOTR but I’ll keep an open mind.

Yes, was hoping to see Gil-galad, Saruman or at least Frodo and Sam. Have absolutely no interest in picking up Thranduil unless it was a reissue (with new head sculpt) of the the armoured version.

I don't think so. Even before InArt there'd be complaints - some IMO legitimate (like Faramir's vambraces and the upside down quiver:monkey3) and some IMO not.

But above all, for me, is at least some folks wanting a premium fig, seemingly, at a basic price. Even tho ASMUS IMO often goes above and beyond with accessories and bases. There's stuff they've done they didn't HAVE to do, and nobody would have known different. Plus after years I haven't had a single issue with any of the bodies on mine.

So I tried InArt and - my hair issues aside- he's fine, more or less. Cheaper use of cloth than I expected. Has some nice details but so does ASMUS and HT. Body seems heavy. Too soon to know about longevity. Whether Aragorn is worth 500$*......er.....still working my brain around the concept of at the moment, there's nothing else like him. But 500+. I keep thinking about switching the cloak out with ASMUS' since the material is nicer. Then there's the whole Ranger cloak thing. Beautiful sculpt tho and weapons.

Anyway having ASMUS back for me is like welcoming an old friend.😁

I find it so odd in the Inart Aragorn thread, you cannot criticize anything. Not the sculpt, not the hair, not the cloak, otherwise delete.

I am very disappointed this week. Was hoping for some Asmus reveals...and showings. Gave up yesterday morning...well gave up being excited for anything.

Guess I will meander for a while.

Regarding your first paragraph, I have similar feelings about that thread. I haven't experienced any of my own comments being deleted, but it did feel like many people were wearing rose tinted glasses, at least initially.

Thankfully, the more people that have received their figure, the more balanced the thread has become.

I'd be patient. China economy - where many fabrics, manufacturing, shipping, workers etc. come from is in a lot of turmoil right now. Factories have shut down. My Obi-Wan was delayed so many times I lost count.

Re Aragorn - well, IMO, folks who wanted a good/great sculpt and/or certain accessories - and I've never had a problem with ASUMS' costumes and accessories and think of Viggo as a particularly difficult face that not even WETA manages - a lot of them are real happy.

If I hadn't managed to re-do Aragorn's hair (after several tries) , tho, I'd still be *&^% off. What came in MY package looked really derpy out of the box. Not just a little, but really bad. Like whoever rooted the sculpt grabbed a big hank of hair and just jammed it in. :pfft:

I asked asmus if they will make new lotr dolls

they replied to me:

Actually we will have a full list of new/ old characters happening, please just wait and see~
Yes!!
they're coming.
Crown Saruman in the works.
Thranduil is awaiting licensor approval.
New Frodo and Sam...
I'm just curious if ANYTHING now from Asmus is NOT FOTR.
Exciting to see them back soon for Spooktacular.
