There's some of us that are passed that point. Don't forget what Rainman secondary market prices are. And some have paid those prices.

Shorty I think the bubble is gonna burst on that secondary market very soon. I don't see people falling over to pay those prices anymore, most of it is a culture of hype anyways. Collectors from all over have caught up already. Nearly everyone has an identical Rainman collection just like if it were Hottoys. Cool but certainly not unique anymore. Maybe now we can get back to collecting characters we really love instead of hedging bets on dolls and secondary markets.

after this...i don't know if i will ever pony up this kind of money again....i believe this to be the most expensive custom i have ever purchased from the beginning...it had been Beto's Jason before that...of course....this does not include aftermarket price customs....thats a different story....

my my my how far I fallen from when i first purchased that matrix morpheus from Sunohc many years ago...

i'm only after one more grail of mine...and it will be Serangs Hendrix....anything after that that goes way over 1000 bucks...will gladly get kit bashed or commissioned piece by piece...:-(...

Hi Joel. :)

Yup. Totally agree. Secondary prices aren't gonna go away. I wish they would but its not gonna happen. Some newb is gonna come here one day and want a Travis DX and pay top dollar for it. Just the way it goes.

Seriously. :lol Post your stuff on FB. Guarantee people will **** themselves with your Rainman customs. We are the elite collectors. :exactly:

Outside of the small comminity thats already caught up, do you think hundreds or thousands of Folks are lined up to pay secondary prices. Most of those numbers have been imaginary. Only one is officially in the books. :wink1:

Nope I never said anything about secondary prices :). Nor did I mention anything about price period I just made a comment it was a little out there to suggest 'nearly everyone' has an identical Rainman collection and then compare it with HT collections lol

My name is Hector and I have a 1/6 collecting addiction. It started small like mostly everyone here. You know, 3 3/4 Star Wars, then graduated to Marvel legends, then HT, now customs. I would say I'm at rock bottom :monkey2

Oh god I'm crying. :(

It's ok man its ok! That's why your here to get help. You've done the hardest part you came. You want to get better remember that haha

i think if this scale gets world wide recognition as in ...commercials and all the marketing behind it...you would see people lined up for days for stuff like this but the reality is that it is not marketed as such....even the retail stuff like hot toys and Enterbay have limited numbers that while they produce nice returns for them....its still considered a small business type of entity....if they were to somehow become as say a mattel or hasbro...and remained high in quality...then the seconday market argument would be very valid...damn near lucrative...but it isn't and will not be......

i think the closest thing we have seen to the tapping of two or more differen demographics to create an unseen and quite lucrative return would be Enterbay's Michael Jordan licence....that licence tappen into the rabid sneaker fan base as well as the Jordan collectibe market...Enterbay has just started to die down on the red hot ordering that it has had all year long with this one license...

imagine that same type of hype for say...an Anton?...RM would never have to work again....LOL

Sports are a bit different though, for the obvious fact that it's a lot more universally embraced.

Movies obviously hit a large demographic but collecting merch from movies and especially collecting figurines is a lot more selective. There's also some stigmas attaching it to childish behavior. One truthfully I'd like to see changed but I don't think it will be any time soon. Most people I've shown my collection to get the odd bit of enthusiasm to it but it's generally short lived and if they knew how much money it cost I'm sure I'd get endless looks of disdain.

Lots of people collect things, there's a lot of studies on the neurosis of collecting, often theories are that it stems a yearning for control lacking in one's life and collecting allows complete control over a segmented part of one's life. Its also usually an introverted behavior type, introversion is also not the norm, extroversion is, but introverts need their solo-based hobby time to recharge their batteries. It's also another reason why not everyone is collecting, even if you appreciate it people don't feel the need to own these items for themselves. I'm definitely an introvert but can keep up with extroverts to a healthy extent but after awhile I need my alone time. Most creative and abstract thinkers are introverts to some capacity... that's why I like this hobby it's another creative outlet for me and a celebration of creativity and artistry in itself.

It just got heavy in here. Let's drown our sorrows in hype for the Travis figure :D

What percentage of your collection from Rainman would you say is secondary market purchases? How fast were you able to put together that collection?

It's very comparable to Hottoys. You can almost certainly put together a Rainman collection as fast as you can any Hottoys series these days.
My point is anyone who's interested is caught up. It only takes a matter of months to put together a Rainman catalog nowadays. That's the hype culture, and that's the fizz seeping out.

lol...i'm an introvert myself....the craziest part about that tho...is that for many years, while i lived in NYC...i used to promote parties and partied with the clebrity types....everyone that knows me knows that i have this side of me and are ok with it...but yes...if they found out how much i spent on this custom collecting...i'm sure i would get the same look....

needleess to say...i have a great support system going....i get alot of my family and friends to get me the less pricey stuff like Hot toys and the like....i get all the heavy hitters in the year...LOL...but i'll be honest...i will be stopping soon...i have a little boy that will be born anyday now....so i know that the first thing that will go will be the expensive custom collecting...not the collection i have but definitely the orders i have yet to see....if i can make without the custom collecting....the retail HT stuff should be ok since i like to sppred them out through out the year....

2 out of 8 so 25% (your not the only one good at math you know ;)) not too bad if you ask me and 18 months or so maybe 2 years

:lol:lol:lol

Oh gosh that's mean. I shouldn't poke fun. :)

No we really shouldn't :rotfl

Pop. . .I think you should saunter over to your shelf, take a deep breath, carefully peruse your collection, and shout to them, as loudly as you can. . .

It was be a real catharsis for you, I think ;)

I refuse to see these as toys, so I might be the one who needs the most help

Hi, I'm Mike. I will be 37 on Friday and I am a 1/6 addict. My friends all break chops because I "play with dolls" but I'm lucky enough to have a girlfriend who is understanding and accepting. She is both an enabler and my salvation so I'm undecided if she's helping the situation or making it worse. I don't feel like I'm close to hitting rock bottom yet.... and I fear that the healing can't begin until I do.

Thanks.

We should start a Collectors Anonymous group. In fact, I think we just did.

It's ok if you just want to listen for the first session, Gruff. You can come out and talk on your on time. Remember... whenever you're ready...we're here....
